Long Creek (White River)
Long Creek is a stream in western Boone and eastern Carroll counties of Northwest Arkansas. The stream is a tributary of the Table Rock Lake section of White River. The stream headwaters arise high in the Ozark Mountains of northwestern Arkansas in southwest Boone County. The stream flows northwest into Carroll County and turns north and runs parallel to U.S. Route 412 past Carrollton. It turns northeast and re-enters Boone County and passes under the Route 412/ Route 62 concurrency just east of Alpena. The stream meanders back and forth across the Boone-Carroll county line repeatedly passing the community of Denver where it gains the Dry Creek tributary. It continues on to the north to enter the waters of Table Rock Lake in northwestern Boone County. Alpena, Arkansas
Alpena is a town in Boone and Carroll counties in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The population was 374 at the 2020 census. The Boone County portion of Alpena is part of the Harrison Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Alpena Pass was founded in 1908 on top of a graveyard shortly after the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad was built through Boone County. In the 1950s, the word "pass" was dropped from the name, thus creating the current name, Alpena. At the time of the town's founding, the town of Carrollton was in decline. Carrollton, Arkansas
Carrollton is an unincorporated community in Carroll County, Arkansas, United States. Once designated the county seat, it had a population near the 10,000 mark in the 1850s. It now has 30 residents. It had a historically significant past. History Carrollton was settled ''circa'' 1840 and was named for Charles Carroll, a signatory of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. By the time of the American Civil War in 1860, Carrollton had grown to a population of 6,000. The town supported six hotels and three livery stables. In the center of town was a basin fed by a 3/4-mile-long flume built from cedar, which was fed from a stream higher up a neighboring mountain.
