London Intermediate Hurling Championship
The London Intermediate Hurling Championship is a Gaelic Athletic Association cup competition between the second tier hurling clubs in London, England, organised by London GAA. In addition to four intermediate clubs, three senior clubs regularly submit 'B' teams into the competition. The competition's winner is promoted to the senior championship for the following year. St Declan's entered the championship for the first time in 2016. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The association also promotes Irish music and dance, as well as the Irish language. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The ' can be caught in the hand and carried for not more than four steps, struck in the air or struck on the ground with the hurley. The London County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Londain) or London GAA is one of the county boards outside Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in London. The county board is also responsible for the London county teams and schools. The county football team compete in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship on an annual basis, the only English based team to do so. Fulham Irish GAA Club
Fulham Irish GAA Club is a Gaelic Football and Hurling Club who play on Wormwood Scrubs in West London. Fulham Irish GAA hold the unique status of being the only club in London to offer dual players Senior Football & Senior Hurling. It is a unique achievement for a Club that was established in 2006 & only formed a hurling team as recently as 2011. The Fulham Irish Hurling Team defeated Granuaille in the London Intermediate Championship Final in 2012 to gain promotion to the top tier of London Hurling. Thomas McCurtains is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Goodmayes, East London. The club covers a wide area and current players live in many different areas, including, Gants Hill, Woodford, Leyton, Leytonstone, Stratford, Romford, Dagenham, Brentwood & Chelmsford as well as many other areas.
