London Bridge Bus Station
London Bridge bus station serves the London Bridge area of the city of London and is situated at the London Bridge tube and rail station. There are three stands at the station which are situated on the station forecourt. London Buses routes 17, 43, 141, 149, 388 and 521 serve the station. London Bridge
Several bridges named London Bridge have spanned the River Thames between the City of London and Southwark, in central London. The current crossing, which opened to traffic in 1973, is a box girder bridge built from concrete and steel. It replaced a 19th-century stone-arched bridge, which in turn superseded a 600-year-old stone-built medieval structure. This was preceded by a succession of timber bridges, the first of which was built by the Roman founders of London. The current bridge stands at the western end of the Pool of London and is positioned upstream from previous alignments. The approaches to the medieval bridge were marked by the church of St Magnus-the-Martyr on the northern bank and by Southwark Cathedral on the southern shore. Shard London Bridge
The Shard, also referred to as the Shard of Glass, Shard London Bridge, and formerly London Bridge Tower, is a 72-storey skyscraper, designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano, in Southwark, London, that forms part of The Shard Quarter development. Standing high, The Shard is the tallest building in the United Kingdom, and the seventh-tallest building in Europe. It is also the second-tallest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom, after the concrete tower of the Emley Moor transmitting station. London Buses route 521 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Waterloo and London Bridge stations, it is operated by London General and is one of two Red Arrow branded services. In 2016, it became the first battery electric bus route in London, along with route 507. History Route 521 commenced operating on 18 July 1992 as part of the '' Red Arrow'' network of bus routes aimed at commuters in Central London linking some of the capital's main railway termini. On 2 June 2002, along with route 507, the route was the first bus route in London to be converted to articulated bus with Mercedes-Benz O530G Citaros. London Buses route 388 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Stratford City bus station and Elephant and Castle, it is operated by HCT Group#CT Plus, CT Plus. History Route 388 commenced operating on 25 January 2003 between Hackney Wick and Mansion House tube station, Mansion House station in preparation for the introduction of the London congestion charge. It was operated by HCT Group#CT Plus, CT Plus' HCT Group#Ash Grove (HK), Ash Grove (HK) with East Lancs Lolyne bodied Dennis Trident 2s. On 25 September 2004, it was extended to Blackfriars station. London Buses Route 149
London Buses route 149 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Edmonton Green and London Bridge, it is operated by Arriva London. History Route 149 was introduced in 1961 to replace trolleybus route 649 between Waltham Cross and Liverpool Street station. In 1968 it was extended on weekdays to Victoria with some peak hour journeys extended from Waltham Cross to Flamstead End via Cheshunt. In 1970 the route was withdrawn north of Ponders End and in 1971 back to Edmonton, although a few peak hour journeys continued to serve Ponders End. Seven years later route 149 was re-extended to Ponders End at all times. In 1985, it was withdrawn between Waterloo and Victoria, and further cut back to Liverpool Street in 1991 apart from a few early weekday journeys to Mansion House station. London Buses route 141 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Palmers Green and London Bridge bus station, it is operated by Arriva London. History The route was retained by Arriva London with a contract awarded in May 2005. Route 141 was the first route to be served by hybrid electric double-decker buses, with the first one entering service in March 2007. A bus operating on route 141 was involved in an accident near Monument station on 24 February 2010. Eleven people including the driver were injured when the bus crashed into a set of railings and narrowly avoided falling down the steps into the station. Upon being re-tendered, route 141 was retained by Arriva London with a new contract commencing on 12 January 2013. London Buses route 43 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Friern Barnet and London Bridge station, it is operated by Metroline. History Route 43 commenced operating in August 1912 as a daily route between Archway station and London Bridge station via Holloway Road, Upper Street, Angel, City Road, Moorgate, Bank station and London Bridge, and was quickly extended to Muswell Hill Broadway via East Finchley and Fortis Green Road. The route along which the 43 operates was designated as London's first Red Route bus priority scheme in 1992. Southwark ( ) is a district of Central London situated on the south bank of the River Thames, forming the north-western part of the wider modern London Borough of Southwark. London Bridge Station
London Bridge is a central London railway terminus and connected London Underground station in Southwark, south-east London. It occupies a large area on three levels immediately south-east of London Bridge, from which it takes its name. The main line station is the oldest railway station in London fare zone 1 and one of the oldest in the world having opened in 1836.
