London 1986
''London 1986'' is a live album by the English group Talk Talk, released in Europe by Pond Life Records on compact disc in 1999. It was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on 8 May 1986 near the end of their European tour to promote their 1986 studio album ''The Colour of Spring''. This show was the band's last in the UK, and the tour would be the band's final live performances, although they went on to release two more studio albums in 1988 and 1991. Promotional copies released in 1998 were titled '' Hammersmith''. The album was met with moderately positive reviews upon its release. It is notable for capturing the band's transition period, when their sound was moving away from their earlier pop phase, from which the performances are mostly drawn, into their later experimental music. Mark Hollis (musician)
Mark David Hollis (4 January 1955 – February 2019) was an English musician and singer-songwriter. He achieved commercial success and critical acclaim in the 1980s and 1990s as the co-founder, lead singer and principal songwriter of the band Talk Talk. Hollis wrote or co-wrote most of Talk Talk's music—including hits like " It's My Life" and " Life's What You Make It"—and in later works developed an experimental, contemplative style. Beginning in 1981 as a synth-pop group with a New Romantic image, Talk Talk's sound became increasingly adventurous under Hollis's direction. For their third album, ''The Colour of Spring''(1986), Talk Talk adopted an art pop sound that won critical and commercial favour; it remains their biggest commercial success. Denis Blackham
Denis Blackham (born in 1952) is an English music mastering engineer. He began his audio mastering work in 1969 at IBC Studios in London, and later worked for Polygram, RCA, The Master Room, Nimbus Records, Tape One and George Peckham, Porky's. In 1996 he set up his own studio at his home in Surrey, England and when he moved to the Isle of Skye in 2002, he changed the name of his studio to Skye Mastering. In February 2022, Denis and Rose left Skye and relocated to southern Thailand. Denis has mastered recordings by: the Unthanks, Charlie Dore, and many more in his 50 plus years of music mastering. Blackham semi-retired on 5 May 2014. Blackham's courtship of his wife is the subject of a song by Charlie Dore on her 2017 album ''Dark Matter''. Phill Brown
Phill Brown (born 1950) is an audio engineer who has worked with a number of well-known musicians, including: Traffic, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Cat Stevens, Bob Marley and Talk Talk. He is also the younger brother of Terry Brown. Career Brown began his career at Olympic Studios in London. He worked as the studio's tape-operator on Jimi Hendrix's ''All Along The Watchtower'' and ''Beggars Banquet'' by The Rolling Stones. Mark Feltham (musician)
Mark Feltham (born 20 October 1955, Bermondsey, Southwark, London) is an English musician, best known for his harmonica playing. Feltham is a long-term member of the British rhythm and blues band Nine Below Zero, and Rory Gallagher's band; and is often used as a session musician. In an interview on the ''South Bank Show'' broadcast in 1981, Nine Below Zero guitarist and singer Dennis Greaves noted that Feltham's 'nan' had played the harmonica and his dad bought him his first instrument. Greaves also stated that Feltham had been playing in his bedroom for 11 years, but had given the instrument up for a time before joining Nine Below Zero, his first band. In addition, when he joined he did not know how to play through a microphone or what an amplifier was. Greaves also noted that Feltham studied the music of Little Walter, Charlie McCoy and Junior Wells. David Rhodes (guitarist)
David Rhodes (born 2 May 1956) is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter best known for his long-time association with Peter Gabriel. He was the guitarist and vocalist for the British rock band Random Hold from 1979–1982, and has been the principal studio and touring guitarist for Gabriel since 1980. Rhodes has released two solo albums. Biography David Rhodes was born on 2 May 1956 in London. Lee David Harris (born 20 July 1962) is an English drummer and musician. Harris attended The Deanes School with Paul Webb, and they became good friends. "Such a Shame" is a song written by Mark Hollis for the English band Talk Talk's second album '' It's My Life'' (1984). It was released as the album's second single and went on to become a top 10 hit across Europe. Overview "Such a Shame" was inspired by Luke Rhinehart's ''The Dice Man'', one of composer Mark Hollis' favourite books. When asked what drove him to respond to Rhinehart's book, Hollis replied, "A good book, not a lifestyle I'd recommend." The song was released as the album's second single in early 1984, with the cover art designed by James Marsh. Some pressings of the single came with an additional 7" release ''The Talk Talk Demos'' which included three songs recorded in June 1981: "Candy", "Talk Talk" and "Mirror Man". It was recorded for the band's 1986 album ''The Colour of Spring'' and was the second single from the album, making the top 40 in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Flanders.
