Locomotiv GT
Locomotiv GT (often abbreviated LGT, and sometimes using the nickname Loksi) was a Hungarian rock band formed in 1971. Starting out as a progressive rock band, they later experimented with many other styles including jazz, funk, and pop. During their heyday they were one of Hungary's most popular rock bands. The band broke up in 2016 after the death of longtime singer/bassist Tamás Somló. History Early years The band was formed in April 1971 by members of previously successful Hungarian rock bands. A poll in ''Hungarian Youth'' magazine listing the nation's favorite rock musicians inspired several of the winners to form a new band together. Singer/keyboardist Gábor Presser and drummer József Laux had been members of Omega, singer/bassist Károly Frenreisz had been a member of Metró, and singer/guitarist Tamás Barta ( hu) had been in Hungária. Omega (band)
Omega was a Hungarian rock band formed in 1962, which has been described as the most successful Hungarian rock band in history. They have released more than 20 albums both in Hungarian and English. After several early personnel changes, their classic lineup came together in 1971 and was intact for more than forty years. Singer János Kóbor was with the band continuously from 1962 to his death in 2021; keyboardist/singer László Benkő was present from 1962 until his death in 2020; while guitarist György Molnár and drummer Ferenc Debreczeni joined in 1967 and 1971 respectively. Bassist Tamás Mihály was a member of the band from 1967 to 2017. They have won several prestigious awards for their contributions to Hungarian culture. Hungária (band)
Hungária was a Hungarian pop-rock band formed by singer/guitarist/keyboardist Miklós Fenyő in 1967. Despite periodic suppression by the Hungarian Communist regime, by the early 1980s Hungária was one of the country's most popular bands. History Miklós Fenyő had lived in the United States for a time. He entered the Hungarian music scene in 1962 and started his own band Syconor in 1964. In 1967 he formed a songwriting partnership with lyricist István S. Nagy, and formed Hungária as an outlet for his songs. The earliest Hungária songs were in the style of beat music. Jack Bruce
John Symon Asher Bruce (14 May 1943 – 25 October 2014) was a Scottish bassist, singer-songwriter, musician and composer. He gained popularity as the primary lead vocalist and ‍bassist ‍of British rock band Cream. After the group disbanded in 1968, he pursued a solo career and also played with several bands. In the early 1960s Bruce joined the Graham Bond Organisation (GBO), where he met his future bandmate Ginger Baker. After leaving the band, he joined with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, where he met Eric Clapton, who also became his future bandmate. His time with the band was brief. In 1966, he formed Cream with lead guitarist Clapton and drummer Baker; he co-wrote many of their songs (including " Sunshine of Your Love", " White Room" and "I Feel Free") with poet/lyricist Pete Brown. James Miller (March 23, 1942 – October 22, 1994) was an American record producer and musician. While he produced albums for dozens of different bands and artists, he is most closely associated for his work with several key musical acts of the 1960s and 1970s. Miller rose to prominence working with the various bands of vocalist Steve Winwood (including Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, and Blind Faith). ''Bummm!'' is Hungarian rock band Locomotiv GT's third studio album and was released in 1973. It was their first album with singer and bassist Tamás Somló and their last album with guitarist Tamás Barta before he left the band. Because Somló was only learning the bass guitar when he joined the band, most of the bass on the album was recorded by Barta. The album was recorded and released in 1973. Not long after its release, the album was banned due to Barta's immigration to the USA, which was illegal at the time. The album was re-released in 1982 but without its original cover. World Popular Song Festival
The , also known as Yamaha Music Festival and unofficially as the "Oriental Eurovision", was an international song contest held from 1970 until 1989. It was organised by the Yamaha Music Foundation in Tokyo, Japan from 1970 until 1989. The first edition of the World Popular Song Festival (WPSF) took place on 20, 21 and 22 November 1970 with 37 participating countries from all continents. The concert was cancelled in 1988 due to the illness of the Shōwa Emperor; the final year was a charity concert for UNICEF, after which the contest was formally ended.
