Lochailort
Lochailort ( , gd, Ceann Loch Ailleart) is a hamlet in Scotland that lies at the head of Loch Ailort, a sea loch, on the junction of the Road to the Isles ( A830) between Fort William and Mallaig with the A861 towards Salen and Strontian. It is served by Lochailort railway station on the West Highland Line. Nearby is Lochailort Inn, a public house, and Our Lady of the Braes, a small Roman Catholic church that was consecrated in 1874 but little used since 1964 as Sunday Mass is celebrated in the chapel at Inverailort House which is located on the opposite side of the loch. History The owner of Inverailort House, Christian Cameron, was a keen photographer in the late 19th century. She took many photographs of the house and surrounding area but most of the glass plates were lost or destroyed when the military took over the house during World War II but the surviving photographs have been published in a book. Lochailort railway station is a railway station serving the village of Lochailort in the Highland (council area), Highland Council area in Scotland. This station is on the West Highland Line, between Glenfinnan railway station, Glenfinnan and Beasdale railway station, Beasdale, from the former Banavie railway station, Banavie Junction. ScotRail manage the station and operate all services. Loch Ailort ( ; Scottish Gaelic: Loch Ailleart) is a sea loch in Morar, Lochaber, Highland, Scotland. Loch Ailort is a shallow V shaped loch, with the small Ardnish Peninsula on the north side, and the large southwest facing Moidart Peninsula to the south.

Inverailort House
Inverailort House is a mansion, south of Lochailort, at the head of Loch Ailort. History Having been a shooting lodge for MacDonald of Clanranald, Inverailort House was enlarged in 1828 by Major General Sir Alexander Cameron. It was subsequently owned by James Head, a director of several shipping lines, who married into the Cameron family in 1890. Francis Cameron-Head died in 1957 and his widow lived at Inverailort until her death in 1994. Her companion Barbara Mackintosh continued to live at the house until her eventual death in 2015. In the late 19th Century Christian Cameron, the wife of James Head, was a keen photographer. She took many photographs of the house and surrounding area. Most of the glass plates were lost or destroyed when the military took over the house during World War II, but the surviving photographs have been published in a book. The A861 road is a circuitous, primarily coastal, road in Lochaber, within the Highland council area of Scotland. The A861 serves the communities of the remote Ardgour, Sunart, Moidart and Ardnamurchan areas Although the ends of this road are only apart (the direct link being by way of the A830 road) its total length is . The West Highland Line ( gd, Rathad Iarainn nan Eilean - "Iron Road to the Isles") is a railway line linking the ports of Mallaig and Oban in the Scottish Highlands to Glasgow in Central Scotland. The line was voted the top rail journey in the world by readers of independent travel magazine ''Wanderlust'' in 2009, ahead of the notable Trans-Siberian line in Russia and the Cuzco to Machu Picchu line in Peru.
