Locala Community Partnerships is a community interest company providing NHS community services in Yorkshire. It was developed by Kirklees Primary Care Trust as a result of the Transforming Community Services initiative in 2011. Their first generation of mobile workers used rugged Toughbook laptops and had access to clinical records, but had to go back to the office for anything else. They then developed a Facebook-style intranet called Elsie with personal profiles, photographs and details of employee personal interests enabling staff to confer remotely. Both patients and staff can use Microsoft Lync. All staff are now equipped with mobile devices using Dell technology with a hybrid cloud which can be used by employees over 3G or Wi-Fi to create and access records and manage work schedules. Calderdale And Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust runs Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, Huddersfield and Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax, both in West Yorkshire, England. It became a Foundation Trust in 2006. The rebuilding of Calderdale Royal Hospital by the Catalyst consortium which now services and maintains the hospital was a Private Finance Initiative costing £103 million. Primary Care Trust
Primary care trusts (PCTs) were part of the National Health Service in England from 2001 to 2013. PCTs were largely administrative bodies, responsible for commissioning primary, community and secondary health services from providers. Until 31 May 2011, they also provided community health services directly. Collectively PCTs were responsible for spending around 80 per cent of the total NHS budget. Primary care trusts were abolished on 31 March 2013 as part of the Health and Social Care Act 2012, with their work taken over by clinical commissioning groups. Transforming Community Services
Transforming Community Services was a programme in the English NHS which operated from 2008 at a national level and continued during the implementation of the Health and Social Care Act 2012. Although the rhetoric of the programme was about improving the quality of community services the reality was mostly concerned with structural changes. Community services in England did not fit easily into the model of the NHS developed under the National Health Service and Community Care Act 1990 and were repeatedly reorganised. When primary care trusts were established most of the free-standing community NHS trusts were dissolved and taken over by the PCTs – sometimes being divided up in the process. The Toughbook, introduced in 1996 with the CF-25, is designed to withstand outside forces which would damage or destroy normal laptops. Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) were NHS organisations set up by the Health and Social Care Act 2012 to organise the delivery of NHS services in each of their local areas in England. On 1 July 2022 they were abolished and replaced by Integrated care systems as a result of the Health and Care Act 2022.
