Lloyd St. Amand
Lloyd St. Amand (born November 10, 1952, in Sarnia, Ontario) is a Canadians, Canadian politician and a former Member of Parliament (Canada), Member of Parliament for the riding of Brant (electoral district), Brant. He is a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. Born in Sarnia, Ontario, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario and his law degree in 1977 from the University of Windsor. Since 1979, St. Amand has been a resident of Brantford, Brant's most populous urban centre, where he has practiced family and criminal law. He has volunteered within the community with several organizations, including St. Joseph's Hospital, Brant Waterways Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, Big Brothers, Nova Vita Women's Services, and Brant United Way. 2004 Canadian Federal Election
The 2004 Canadian federal election was held on June 28, 2004, to elect members to the House of Commons of Canada of the 38th Parliament of Canada. The Liberal government of Prime Minister Paul Martin lost its majority but was able to continue in office as a minority government after the election. This was the first election contested by the newly amalgamated Conservative Party of Canada, after it was formed by the two right-of-centre parties, the Progressive Conservative Party and the Canadian Alliance. On May 23, 2004, the governor general, Adrienne Clarkson, on the advice of Martin, ordered the dissolution of the House of Commons, triggering an early election despite the Liberals being only three and a half years into their five-year mandate. Franco-Ontarians (french: Franco-Ontariens or if female, sometimes known as ''Ontarois'' and ''Ontaroises'') are Francophone Canadians that reside in the province of Ontario. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit federation with a focus on mentoring programs for youth since 1913. The Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in Canada provides services to 41,700 youth in over 1,100 communities.
