Llangothlin
Llangothlin is a rural locality with several houses, north of Guyra on the Northern Tablelands in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. Llangothlin was located in the Guyra Shire local government area until that council was amalgamated into the Armidale Regional Council on 12 May 2016. In 1848 William Rawson was lessee of the Llangothlin run. Llangothlin was named after its Welsh counterpart (spelt Llangollen) in Denbighshire. The original alignment of the New England Highway crossed the Main North railway line at Llangothlin at a level crossing, until the highway was realigned to be entirely on the eastern side of the railway. There was originally a railway station at Llangothlin, which opened in 1884 and closed about 1974. The line is now closed. The old church is now a crafts shop. Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve
The Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve is a protected wetland nature reserve that is located on the Northern Tablelands in the New England region of New South Wales, in eastern Australia. The reserve is situated approximately north-east of the rural locality of Llangothlin, and some north-east of Guyra. The reserve contains the Little Llangothlin Lagoon, part of the smaller Billy Bung Lagoon, and was established in 1979 under the ''NSW National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974''. In 1996 the reserve was designated a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. It, with the adjacent area of Bagot Road, is also listed on Australia’s Register of the National Estate. Aberfoyle River
Aberfoyle River, a watercourse that is part of the Clarence River catchment, is located in the New England and Northern Tablelands districts of New South Wales, Australia. Course and features Aberfoyle River rises on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range, at Llangothlin, north of Guyra, and flows generally south southeast, east southeast, northeast, and east northeast, joined by three minor tributaries towards its confluence with the Guy Fawkes River, below Chaelundi Mountain, within Guy Fawkes River National Park. The river descends over its course. The Devils Chimney in the Aberfoyle River gorge was declared an Aboriginal Place on 8 August 1980. Armidale Regional Council
The Armidale Region is a local government area in the New England and Northern Tablelands regions of New South Wales, Australia. This area was formed in 2016 from the merger of the Armidale Dumaresq Shire with the surrounding Guyra Shire. The combined area covered the urban area of Armidale and the surrounding region, extending primarily eastward from the city through farming districts to the gorges and escarpments that mark the edge of the Northern Tablelands. The Armidale Region is administered by the Armidale Regional Council. The Mayor of the Armidale Region is Cr. Sam Coupland, an independent politician. Guyra Shire
Guyra Shire is the name of a former local government area located in the New England region of New South Wales, Australia. The shire was abolished on 12 May 2016, where the council, together with the Armidale Dumaresq Shire, was subsumed into the Armidale Regional Council with immediate effect. The shire was located on the New England Highway. The Mayor of the Guyra Shire Council was Cr. Hans Hietbrink, from 2008 until the council was abolished on 12 May 2016. Hietbrink was unaligned with any political party. Denbighshire
Denbighshire ( ; cy, Sir Ddinbych; ) is a county in the north-east of Wales. Its borders differ from the historic county of the same name. Northern Tablelands is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is currently held by Adam Marshall representing the National Party, following a by-election triggered by the resignation of independent member Richard Torbay. The electorate currently includes Uralla Shire, Armidale Regional Council, Glen Innes Severn, Inverell Shire, Gwydir Shire and Moree Plains Shire. Waterfowl
Anseriformes is an order of birds also known as waterfowl that comprises about 180 living species of birds in three families: Anhimidae (three species of screamers), Anseranatidae (the magpie goose), and Anatidae, the largest family, which includes over 170 species of waterfowl, among them the ducks, geese, and swans. Most modern species in the order are highly adapted for an aquatic existence at the water surface. With the exception of screamers, males have penises, a trait that has been lost in the Neoaves. The Register of the National Estate was a heritage register that listed natural and cultural heritage places in Australia that was closed in 2007. Phasing out began in 2003, when the Australian National Heritage List and the Commonwealth Heritage List were created and by 2007 the Register had been replaced by these and various state and territory heritage registers. Places listed on the Register remain in a non-statutory archive and are still able to be viewed via the National Heritage Database. The Division of New England is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is named after the New England region in northern New South Wales. From 1922 to 2001, New England was usually regarded as a comfortably safe seat for the National Party, formerly the Country Party. Only one Labor candidate has ever won the seat – Frank Foster at the 1906 election and again at the 1910 election, both times on small margins. Since then, the closest Labor has come to winning the seat was in the 1943 landslide, when the Country majority was pared back to an extremely marginal 1.1 percent. Main North Railway Line, New South Wales
The Main North Line (also known as the Great Northern Railway) is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs through the Central Coast, Hunter and New England regions. The line was the original main line between Sydney and Brisbane, however this required a change of gauge at Wallangarra. As of 1988, the line closed progressively north of Armidale with services gradually withdrawn till 2004, with the main route between Sydney and Brisbane now the North Coast line.
