Living With The Enemy (radio Programme)
''Living with the Enemy'' is a BBC Radio 4 sitcom written by and starring Nick Revell and Gyles Brandreth. It made its debut on 14 November 2006. Revell appears as Nick Reynolds, a former 1980s left-wing comedian, now alternative medicine practitioner. Brandreth appears as a former Conservative Party Minister turned minor television celebrity. The two are forced into sharing a flat in Hammersmith, London, after Nick accidentally floods Gyles's flat on the floor below. Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays Gyles's god-daughter, Sophie, who is the third lead character, and is the spoilt daughter of a corrupt African politician. Revell is also a stand-up comedian in real life, whilst Brandreth was a Conservative MP between 1992 and 1997, when he served as a government whip in John Major's government. Situation Comedy
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Critics disagree over the utility of the term "sitcom" in classifying shows that have come into existence since the turn of the century. Gyles Brandreth
Gyles Daubeney Brandreth (born 8 March 1948) is an English broadcaster, writer and former politician. He has worked as a television presenter, theatre producer, journalist, author and publisher. He was a presenter for TV-am's '' Good Morning Britain'' in the 1980s, and has been regularly featured on Channel 4's game show ''Countdown'' and the BBC's ''The One Show''. On radio, he makes frequent appearances on the BBC Radio 4 programme '' Just a Minute''. In 1992, Brandreth was elected to the House of Commons as the Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for the City of Chester constituency. Nick Revell
Nick Revell is a British comedian and writer for radio and television. Born John Revell, he studied at Lincoln College, Oxford. Revell started performing stand-up in 1980 at Comedy Store, where he later became a regular MC, between 1982 and 1992. According to his website, he then gave up being a stand-up comedian and started writing for radio and television until 2002. At the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1987 he was nominated for the Perrier Award and won The Blackheath Award for Excellence. Gugu Mbatha-Raw
Gugulethu Sophia Mbatha-Raw (; born 21 April 1983) is a British actress who is known for her performances on stage and screen. In 2017 she was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for services to drama. In February 2021, Mbatha-Raw was appointed a global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Ed Morrish is a British radio comedy producer, joining the BBC as a trainee in 2002. Career Morrish has numerous credits on BBC Radio which include ''Newsjack'', ''The News Quiz'', ''The Now Show'', ''Mark Thomas: The Manifesto'', '' Spats'', ''John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme'' and ''Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully''. Whip (politics)
A whip is an official of a political party whose task is to ensure party discipline in a legislature. This means ensuring that members of the party vote according to the party platform, rather than according to their own individual ideology or the will of their donors or constituents. Whips are the party's "enforcers". They try to ensure that their fellow political party legislators attend voting sessions and vote according to their party's official policy. Members who vote against party policy may "lose the whip", being effectively expelled from the party. The term is taken from the "whipper-in" during a hunt, who tries to prevent hounds from wandering away from a hunting pack.
