The Liverpool Steamship Owners Association was founded in 1858 to bring together the major shipping lines and express their collective views to the newly formed Mersey Docks and Harbour Board in Liverpool, England. Mersey Docks And Harbour Board
The Mersey Docks and Harbour Company (MDHC), formerly the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board (MDHB), owns and administers the dock facilities of the Port of Liverpool, on the River Mersey, England. These include the operation of the enclosed northern dock system that runs from Prince's Dock to Seaforth Dock, in the city of Liverpool and the dock facilities built around the Great Float of the Wirral Peninsula, located on the west side of the river. Peel Ports, the MDHC's parent company, owns other maritime facilities in the area, including the Cammell Laird shipyard, Tranmere Oil Terminal and the Manchester Ship Canal. Liverpool Museums
National Museums Liverpool, formerly National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside, comprises several museums and art galleries in and around Liverpool, England. All the museums and galleries in the group have free admission. The museum is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and an exempt charity under English law. In the 1980s, local politics in Liverpool was under the control of the Militant group of the Labour Party. Merseyside Maritime Museum
The Merseyside Maritime Museum is a museum based in the city of Liverpool, Merseyside, England. It is part of National Museums Liverpool and an Anchor Point of ERIH, The European Route of Industrial Heritage. It opened for a trial season in 1980 before fully opening in 1984 and expanding in 1986. David MacIver
David MacIver (24 August 1840 – 1 September 1907) was an English steam ship owner and a Conservative politician who sat in the House of Commons in two periods between 1874 and 1907. MacIver was the eldest son of Charles MacIver of Calderstone, Allerton near Liverpool, and his wife Mary Ann Morrison, daughter of D Morrison of Glasgow. He was educated at the Royal Institution School, Liverpool. From 1863 he was a partner in the firm of D and C MacIver who were managing owners of the Cunard Steamship Company. He was chairman of the Liverpool Steamship Owners Association and President of the American Chamber of Commerce. He was also a director of the Great Western Railway. Thomas Hughes Jackson
Thomas Hughes Jackson (1834–1930), was a British mayor of Birkenhead, England and chairman of the Liverpool Steamship Owners Association. His portrait, painted by George Hall Neale hangs in the Williamson Art Gallery & Museum. He was the son of Sir William Jackson, 1st Baronet, and his wife, Elizabeth Hughes, daughter of Thomas Hughes. Jackson was the long-time resident of Claughton Manor House, overlooking Birkenhead Park. William Nicholas Cayzer, Baron Cayzer (21 January 1910 – 16 April 1999), known as Sir Nicholas Cayzer, 2nd Baronet, from 1943 to 1982, was a British ship-owner responsible for amalgamating the Clan Line, Union-Castle Line, King Line and Bullard King & Company to form the British & Commonwealth Shipping Co.
