Liverpool Roller Birds
Liverpool Roller Birds (LRB) are a flat-track roller derby team based in Liverpool, Merseyside. They joined the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) in 2015, and became a member of the WFTDA Apprentice Program in December 2018. They graduated as full members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) in February 2019. League history Dreamt up and named as skaters Mickey and Ginny Flynn travelled home from roller derby practice in Manchester, the league came into being in November 2009 with initial support from Rainy City Roller Derby. The league made their game debut at the 2010 Great Yorkshire Showdown tournament in Huddersfield, taking on Sheffield Steel Roller Girls and losing 121–28. In 2019, Liverpool participated in their first WFTDA tournament after gaining full membership earlier in the year. The Five Nations Roller Derby Championships is an annual competition for roller derby leagues in the United Kingdom. History The tournament originated as the End of the World Series, a 2012 league of six roller derby teams in central England. The success of this competition led it to expand in 2013 under the new name of the Heartland Series, with twelve teams in two division, and it doubled in size again in 2014. London Rockin' Rollers (LRR) is a flat-track roller derby league based in London, England. Founded in 2007, the league is a member of both the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA) and the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). League History The league was started in 2007, by a group of founding members including Jackie Mason (derby name Jack Attack). At the time, there were only two other roller derby teams in the UK: the London Rollergirls and the Birmingham Blitz Dames. Manchester Roller Derby (MRD) is a flat track roller derby league based in Manchester, England. Founded in 2010, as the first co-ed league in the UK, they became members of the Men's Roller Derby Association in December 2012 and of United Kingdom Roller Derby Association in November 2013. Birmingham Blitz Dames (BBD) was a women's flat track roller derby league based in Birmingham in England. Founded in 2006, the league was a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History BBD was founded in October 2006 by American transplant Brenda Bentley (Bee Sting née Iva Issues), who introduced roller derby to the West Midlands. The league was the first to form in the UK outside London, and was originally named the Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames.
