Live Rust
''Live Rust'' is a live album by Neil Young and Crazy Horse, recorded during their fall 1978 ''Rust Never Sleeps'' tour. ''Live Rust'' composed of performances recorded at several venues, including the Cow Palace near San Francisco. Young also directed a companion film, ''Rust Never Sleeps'', under a pseudonym "Bernard Shakey", which consisted of footage from the Cow Palace. The CD version of the album was slightly edited so as to fit on a single compact disc, which were limited to 74 minutes at the time this album was first issued on CD. In 2014, a remastered, high-resolution download was made available on the Pono store, restoring the album to its original length. Between tracks 2 and 3 on side 2 there is a stage announcement calling for people to get off of a tower and comments on an ongoing rainstorm. Neil Young
Neil Percival Young (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian-American singer and songwriter. After embarking on a music career in Winnipeg in the 1960s, Young moved to Los Angeles, joining Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and others. Since the beginning of his solo career with his backing band Crazy Horse, he has released many critically acclaimed and important albums, such as ''Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere'', ''After the Gold Rush'', '' Harvest'', '' On the Beach'' and ''Rust Never Sleeps''. ''Re·ac·tor'' is the eleventh studio album by Canadian folk rock musician Neil Young, and his fourth with American rock band Crazy Horse, released on November 2, 1981. It was his last album released through Reprise Records before he moved to Geffen for his next five albums. Content Musical style The album marked Young's first use of the Synclavier, which would be featured heavily on the subsequent albums ''Trans'' (1982) and ''Landing on Water'' (1986). The song "Shots" had originally been performed live in 1978 as a ballad. The Needle And The Damage Done
"The Needle and the Damage Done" is a 1972 song by Canadian-American singer-songwriter Neil Young. The lyrics describe the effects of heroin addiction on musicians Young knew, including his friend and Crazy Horse bandmate Danny Whitten, who would die of an overdose the same year the song was released. The song would preview the theme of Young's 1975 album '' Tonight's the Night,'' which would reflect on the fatal heroin overdoses of Whitten and Bruce Berry, a roadie for Young and Crazy Horse. Young version "The Needle and the Damage Done" was first released on Young's 1972 album '' Harvest''. Rather than re-recording it, Young selected a live version from January 1971 that featured him singing and playing acoustic guitar. The Ducks (formerly known as the Jeff Blackburn Band) were a short-lived American hard rock supergroup formed in the summer of 1977 by singer-songwriter Jeff Blackburn. The band included Bob Mosley (an original member of Moby Grape), Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young, and Johnny Craviotto. The band played a series of impromptu bar gigs around the Santa Cruz area in 1977. "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)" is a song written by Canadian-American musician Neil Young. Combined with its acoustic counterpart " My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)", it bookends Young's 1979 album '' Rust Never Sleeps''. The song was influenced by the punk rock zeitgeist of the late 1970s, in particular by Young's collaborations with the American art punk band Devo, and what he viewed as his own growing irrelevance.
