''LiveAndWell.com'' is a 1999 limited edition live album by David Bowie. It was not available commercially and could only be acquired by being subscribed to BowieNet at the time. The album is made up of recordings from the 1997 Earthling Tour, featuring songs from the albums '' 1. Outside'' (1995) and '' Earthling'' (1997) In late 2020, it was announced that the album would be released publicly for the first time on 15 January 2021. Background Following the successful Earthling Tour, Bowie, Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati mixed a live album, intending it for a commercial release. However, Virgin, Bowie's label at the time, scrapped the release when it was submitted to them in late 1998. During the mixing of this live album, Bowie and the band also recorded "Fun" and a cover of Bob Dylan's " Tryin' to Get to Heaven". Earthling Tour
The Earthling Tour was a concert tour by British musician David Bowie, in promotion of his album '' Earthling'', released in 1997, The tour started on 7 June 1997 at Flughafen Blankensee in Lübeck, Germany, continuing through Europe, North America before reaching a conclusion in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 7 November 1997. History Bowie first publicly performed '' Earthling'' material in late 1996, playing " Telling Lies" and sometimes " Little Wonder" at shows on the US East Coast in September and October. On 9 January 1997, the day after he turned 50, Bowie held a 50th birthday concert for himself, performing tracks off the album, as well as a selection of songs from his back catalogue. He played to nearly 15,000 fans at New York's Madison Square Garden. ''Brilliant Live Adventures 995–1999' is a box set by English musician David Bowie, released incrementally throughout late 2020 and early 2021 as a series of six live albums taken from various concerts performed in support of '' Outside'' (1995), '' Earthling'' (1997) and '' Hours'' (1999). Named after the ''Hours'' song "Brilliant Adventure", the box set contains a mix of edited single shows and compilations from multiple concerts. Initial pressings of the constituent albums sold out quickly, prompting label Parlophone to issue a second pressing to give more fans a chance to buy the albums on CD or vinyl. Initial announcement In October 2020, a series of six live concert albums was announced by label Parlophone. BowieNet was an Internet service provider launched by singer-songwriter David Bowie in 1998 and active until 2012. History Bowie was an early user of the Internet, reportedly using email as early as the late 1980s, and in 1996 he released the song " Telling Lies" as an Internet download, the first downloadable single by a major artist. In 1997 and 1998, Bowie worked with Robert Goodale and Ron Roy to understand the potential of the Internet as a resource for music distribution and fan outreach. BowieNet launched in September 1998, and offered dial-up service access to the Internet for $19.95 per month or £10.00 in the UK. Users with another ISP could pay $5.95 to access www.davidbowie.com. For the service, Bowie partnered with the network services companies UltraStar and Concentric Network Corp (now XO Communications). At its peak, BowieNet had about 100,000 customers. Outside Tour
The Outside Tour was a tour by English rock musician David Bowie, opening in September 1995 and lasting over a year. The opening shows preceded the release of the ''1. Outside'' album which it supported. The tour visited stops in North America and Europe. The US leg of the tour was supported by Nine Inch Nails as part of their extended Self Destruct Tour, who segued their set with Bowie's to form a continuous show. Morrissey was the support act for the entire European leg, but withdrew from the tour after nine dates. On selected dates Reeves Gabrels performed songs from his album, ''The Sacred Squall of Now'' in addition to performing with Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie. "Seven Years in Tibet" is a song and single by English musician David Bowie and Reeves Gabrels from the 1997 album, '' Earthling''. In some territories, a version of the song sung by Bowie in Mandarin Chinese was released as "A Fleeting Moment". Song development "Seven Years in Tibet" was recorded between August and November 1996 during the ''Earthling'' studio sessions. It started out as a Reeves Gabrels instrumental called "Brussels", which Bowie was not impressed with, but eventually Gabrels convinced Bowie to keep. The song's working title was "Biscuit Lady" and its opening lines were from a hoax Internet article in which a woman, wounded by an exploding biscuit container, thinks the biscuit dough on her head are her brains leaking out of her skull. Reeves Gabrels
Reeves Gabrels (born June 4, 1956) is an American guitarist, songwriter and record producer. A member and guitarist of British band the Cure since 2012, Gabrels worked with David Bowie from 1987 to 1999, and was a member of the band Tin Machine. He has lived in New York, Boston, London, Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York's Hudson Valley. His Nashville-based band since 2007, Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends, features Gabrels on guitar and vocals. As a guitarist, Gabrels is recognized for his virtuosity and versatility, able to "explore sonic extremes with a great, adaptive intuition for what each song needs most." He has been characterized as "one of the most daring rock-guitar improvisers since Jimi Hendrix". As a songwriter and composer, Gabrels spans genres. "Hallo Spaceboy" is a song by David Bowie from his 1995 album '' Outside'', and the third and final single from the album. The track was re-recorded in 1996 and issued as a remix featuring Pet Shop Boys as guest artists. Bowie and Brian Eno co-wrote the original album version of the song.
