The Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party ( lt, Lietuvos krikščionių demokratų partija, LKDP) was a Christian-democratic political party in Lithuania. It initially called for Lithuanian patriotism and the defence of the Catholic church in the face of the dominant Russian Orthodox Church. The Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party (LKDP) was formally established in 1917, with its first congress held in Vilnius on 20 November 1918. Seimas
The Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos Respublikos Seimas), or simply the Seimas (), is the unicameral parliament of Lithuania. The Seimas constitutes the legislative branch of government in Lithuania, enacting laws and amendments to the Constitution, passing the budget, confirming the Prime Minister and the Government and controlling their activities. Its 141 members are elected for a four-year term, with 71 elected in individual constituencies, and 70 elected in a nationwide vote based on open list proportional representation. A party must receive at least 5%, and a multi-party union at least 7%, of the national vote to qualify for the proportional representation seats. Parliamentary elections were held in Lithuania in two stages on 25 October and 15 November 1992.Dieter Nohlen & Philip Stöver (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p1201 A total of 141 members were elected to the Seimas, which replaced the Supreme Council; 70 were elected using proportional representation and 71 from single-member constituencies. Where no candidate gained more than 50% of the vote on 25 October, a run-off was held on 15 November. The first round of the elections were held simultaneously with a referendum on the adoption of a new constitution. The result was a victory for the Democratic Labour Party of Lithuania (LDDP), which won 73 seats. Petras Gražulis
Petras Gražulis (born 28 October 1958) is a controversial Lithuanian politician and former Member of the Seimas who is the incumbent chairman of the right-wing People and Justice Union party. He is known for his political scandals and hardline opposition to LGBT rights. Biography Gražulis was born to a family of 15 children in Mankūnai (current day Alytus District Municipality) on 28 October 1958. Vytautas Bogušis (born 2 January 1959) is a Lithuanian politician and former member of the Seimas. Biography Bogušis was born in Puvočiai village, Varėna district, Lithuania on 2 January 1959. Bogušis was an active member of the Christian and anti-Soviet resistance movements, resulting in his expulsion from high school in 1976. Homeland Union
The Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats ( lt, Tėvynės sąjunga Lietuvos krikščionys demokratai, TS–LKD), also known colloquially simply as the Conservatives, is a centre-right political party in Lithuania. It has 18,000 members and 49 of 141 seats in the Seimas. It is the main centre-right party, with an ideology influenced by liberal conservatism, Christian democracy, nationalism and economic liberalism.
