Lithuanian Argentines are Argentine people, Argentine citizens who are fully, partially, or predominantly of Lithuanian people, Lithuanian descent, or Lithuanian-born people residing in Argentina. During the 1920s about 35,000 Lithuanians arrived in Argentina. History Pioneers and settlements In 1909, a group of Lithuanian immigrants from the cities of Ensenada, Buenos Aires Province, Ensenada and Berisso founded the ''Lithuanian Mutual Aid Society Vargdienis'', whose prominent members were the Lithuanian gentlemen Rimavičius, Pavilonis, Bogužas and Baltušis. With less specific dates it is known that even before the First World War there had been organisations of Lithuanian immigrants in Villa Diego, near Rosario, Santa Fe (Aušros žvaigždė) and in the city of Avellaneda (Susivienijimas lietuvių Argentinoje). Lithuanian Brazilians ( pt, Lituano-brasileiros, lt, Brazilijos lietuviai) are Brazilian citizens who are fully, partially or predominantly of Lithuanian descent or are Lithuanian-born people residing in Brazil. History The first Lithuanian to set foot on Brazilian soil, according to a record dated in 1866, was colonel Andrius Višteliauskas. His mission was to aid the Brazilian armed forces in the Paraguayan War. In 1890, a group of Lithuanian immigrants and their families arrived in Brazil, in a total of twenty-five Lithuanian families entered the land of Brazil. Their destination was the newly established colony of Ijuí, situated on the red and fertile soil of the northwestern part of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Fanny Elisa Mikey Orlanszky (c. 1930 – 16 August 2008) was an Argentine-born Colombian actress, theatre producer and entrepreneur. She lived and worked in Colombia from 1959 until her death and was the creator and organizer of the Bogotá Ibero-American Theatre Festival, known as the biggest theatre festival in the world. Antonio Krapovickas
Antonio Krapovickas (8 October 1921 – 17 August 2015) was an Argentine agronomist. Krapovickas received a degree in 1948 in agronomic engineering from the University of Buenos Aires and began teaching in 1949 as Professor of Genetics and Systems Botany at the University of Córdoba. He later became Professor of Plant Anatomy at the National University of Tucumán. In 1964, he moved to Corrientes to accept a position at the National University of the Northeast (UNNE), becoming Chair of its Department of Botany and Ecology in 1977.
