Grandes-Piles, Quebec
Grandes-Piles is a village municipality in the Mauricie region of the province of Quebec in Canada. Geography Located in Radnor Township, this small village is located on a cliff at north of Grand-Mère, overlooking the Saint-Maurice River on the east bank. The village faces the village of Saint-Jean-des-Piles. Once annually ice bridge connecting the two villages were built from December to March. The northwestern part of the municipality faces the La Mauricie National Park, located on the west bank of the Saint-Maurice River. This town was the birthplace of the floating timber in Mauricie, which stopped in 1996 after 150 years. Grandes-Piles proved to be a historic landmark in the forestry industry. Lac-Saguay, Quebec
Lac-Saguay is a village municipality in Antoine-Labelle Regional County Municipality in the Laurentides region of Quebec, Canada. Its economy is centred on tourism, outdoor recreation, hunting, and fishing. The municipality is named after the adjacent Lake Saguay, which in turn comes from the Algonquin ''sagwa'', meaning "unblock" or "pour". An alternate explanation is that it comes from ''saki'', meaning "river mouth." History In 1905, the first settlers arrived when Gouin Road opened that connected Nominingue to Ferme-Neuve via Lac-Saguay. In 1911, the Township Municipality of Boyer-Partie-Ouest was formed out of previously unorganized area, named after Arthur Boyer. That same year, the Parish of Saint-Hugues-du-Lac-Saguay was founded. Beauce-Sartigan is a regional county municipality in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada. The county seat is Saint-Georges. The Chaudière River flows through it. It shares its eastern border with Maine, United States. The name of the RCM is linked to the historical region of which it is part, Beauce. Sartigan is a distortion of ''Mechatigan'' (or ''Msakkikhan''), the name given to the Chaudière River by the native Abenakis. Lac-Poulin, Quebec
Lac-Poulin is a village in the Beauce-Sartigan Regional County Municipality in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada. Its population was 171 as of 2021. Lac-Poulin is an enclave of Saint-Benoît-Labre. Lac-Poulin is named after the lake it surrounds (Poulin), which was named after the first settler Claude Poulin. The first settlers QUEBEC included Claude Poulin (1614-1687) a carpenter, born in St Maclou, Rouen, Normandie, France and his wife Jeanne Mercier (1621-1687)born in Luçon, Eure-et-Loir, Centre, France. Kingsbury, Quebec
Kingsbury is a village municipality located in the Le Val-Saint-François Regional County Municipality of Quebec's Estrie region. It is completely surrounded by the township municipality of Melbourne. The village is known for the lake and forest trails that encircle it, and the views from the mountain tops. Kingsbury is also the hometown to 1993 world champion pair skater Isabelle Brasseur. History In its early history, a train track cut through the village, but now the villagers' houses stand in its place. Kingsbury is most famous for its slate quarry which was an important industry during the 19th century. Men were hired from Wales and Cornwall to come to work the quarry where first-class slate was mined. This slate was sent all over the world. Hemmingford is a village municipality located in Les Jardins-de-Napierville Regional County Municipality of southern Quebec. The population as of 2021 was 829. It was founded in 1878 by the division of the Township of Hemmingford creating two separate entities: the Township and the Village of Hemmingford. Both municipalities are locally referred to collectively as Hemmingford. The two share many things, such as the cost of the volunteer fire department and both hold their councils and offices in the same building in the village.
