A township is a type of municipality in the Canadian province of Ontario. They can have either single-tier status or lower-tier status. Ontario has 200 townships that had a cumulative population of 990,396 and an average population of 4,952 in the 2011 Census. Algonquin Highlands, Ontario
Algonquin Highlands is a township located in Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada. It has a population of 2,351. The northeastern section of the township is included in Algonquin Provincial Park. The township was formed through the amalgamation of Stanhope and Sherborne et al. townships, the latter of which included McClintock, Livingstone, Lawrence and Nightingale. It was thereafter briefly known as the Township of Sherborne, Stanhope, McClintock, Livingstone, Lawrence and Nightingale until it was renamed to its current name in March 2001. Billings, Ontario
Billings is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, as well as the name of a community within that township. Located in the Manitoulin District, the township had a population of 603 in the Canada 2016 Census. Communities The primary community in the township is Kagawong. There are three smaller communities: Billings, Bowser's Corner, and Pleasant Valley. Kagawong Kagawong's harbour is located on Mudge Bay and is home to the Kagawong Lighthouse, which has been in continuous service since 1888. The name Kagawong means "where mists rise from falling waters" in the Ojibwe language, a reference to the nearby Bridal Veil Falls on the Kagawong River. Beckwith, Ontario
Beckwith is a township in eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located in Lanark County on the Mississippi River. It is located within Canada's National Capital Region. Communities The township comprises the communities of Black's Corners, Franktown, Gillies Corners, Prospect, and the western half of Ashton (with the eastern half being within the City of Ottawa), as well as the lakeside communities of Gardiner Shore, Lake Park, Petrie Shore, Rathwell's Shore, Scotch Corners and Tennyson. Black's Corners, a hamlet south of Carleton Place, is the location for the town hall of Beckwith. Baldwin, Ontario
Baldwin ( 2016 population 620) is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario. Located in Sudbury District north of Espanola, the township's two main communities and population centres are McKerrow and Lorne. The junction of Ontario Highway 17 and Ontario Highway 6 is in Baldwin, just west of McKerrow. An old abandoned fire tower still stands north of McKerrow on Agnew Lake. Augusta, Ontario
Augusta Township is a township in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, located in eastern Ontario, Canada. Augusta is situated along the Saint Lawrence River, and extends back into rural hamlets. The township is located between the city of Brockville to the west, and the town of Prescott to the east. The hamlets and villages within Augusta were established prior to the 1900s; primarily by the United Empire Loyalists. There are plenty of buildings and homes still standing in the township today that were built by early settlers; many of these historic homes are even still occupied by direct descendants of the first settlers. In 2013, it was discovered that Samuel Bass, the Canadian abolitionist mentioned in Solomon Northup's 1853 memoir ''12 Years a Slave'', was from Augusta Township. Athens ( 2016 Population 3,013) is a township in the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located approximately north of the St. Lawrence River, near Brockville, west of Addison, and about south west of Ottawa. Armstrong ( 2016 Population 1,166) is a township in the Timiskaming District of Ontario. The only population centre in the township is the community of Earlton. The township is named after Samuel Armstrong, an Independent member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for Parry Sound from 1886 to 1890. History Earlton began to be settled in 1900 as a lumber community by pioneers mostly from York County, soon followed by French-speaking farmers who cultivated the flat prairie-like land of the surrounding Great Clay Belt. Armour ( 2021 population 1,459) is a township municipality in the Canadian province of Ontario. Located in the Almaguin Highlands region of Parry Sound District, the township surrounds but does not include the village of Burk's Falls. It was named in honour of Judge John Douglas Armour. Communities The township includes the communities of Berriedale, Carss, Chetwynd, Katrine and Pickerel Lake. Katrine overlooks Doe Lake, which is located on the west side of the village.
