List Of Television Channels In Italy
This is a list of national Italian TV services available on digital terrestrial, satellite, cable systems in Italy. Some channels have a "timeshift" service, i.e. the same programming (and usually advertisements as well) broadcast one or two hours later to give viewers another chance to catch a favourite programme. On free satellite, as well as on Sky Italia, foreign channels are also available, such as Euronews, CNN International, MTV Dance, MTV Rocks, etc. For Italian-speaking channels not based in Italy, or not having studios in Italy, please see the link above this paragraph. Television In Italy
Television in Italy was introduced in 1939, when the first experimental broadcasts began. However, this lasted for a very short time: when fascist Italy entered World War II in 1940 all transmissions were interrupted, and were resumed in earnest only nine years after the end of the conflict, on January 3, 1954. There are two main national television organisations responsible for most viewing: state-owned RAI, accounting for 37% of the total viewing figures in May 2014, and Mediaset, a commercial network which holds about 33%. The third largest player, the Italian branch of Warner Bros. Discovery, had a viewing share of 5.8%. Apart from these three free to air companies, Comcast's satellite pay TV platform Sky Italia is increasing in viewing and shares. Classica (TV Channel)
Stingray Classica (formerly Classica and Unitel Classica) is a television channel devoted to classical music, opera, ballet and jazz, currently owned by Stingray Group in Canada. History Classica was owned by Unitel, a distributor of filmed classical music performances also headquartered in Germany. The channel revamped both its logo and programming on 28 May 2014. In January 2017, Stingray Group in Quebec, Canada, acquired Classica from Unitel: In the deal, Stingray would also be able to use Unitel's library of about 1500 titles and 2000 hours of filmed contents for 11 years, however this deal was terminated and therefore the channel does not featuzre any content from Unitel. Stingray plans to feature Canadian productions (from both Quebec and outside Quebec) on the channel. Class CNBC (formerly CFN/CNBC) is an Italian pay television channel, working as a localised version of CNBC Europe, albeit with a major focus on the Italian financial markets. The channel is headquartered in Milan, site of the Borsa Italiana, and is a joint venture between the publishing house Class Editori, which holds a majority stake, along with NBC Universal (owner of CNBC Europe) and Italy's largest commercial television company Mediaset, who hold 20% of the channel each. The channel broadcasts for sixteen hours per day, covering trading in Europe, Asia and the United States and it has correspondents in other countries, such as at CNBC Europe in London. Cielo (; stylised as cielo) is an Italian free-to-air television channel owned by Sky Italia aimed towards young audiences, and is available on digital terrestrial television and on Sky satellite television platform. Originally planned to be launched on 1 December 2009, it was delayed to 16 December 2009. Cartoonito is a brand name used by Warner Bros. Discovery for a collection of television networks and programming blocks that target preschool-age children. The name combines the "cartoon" with the Spanish suffix "ito", meaning "small".
