The Rolling Stones are an English Rock music, rock band formed in 1962. They have released The Rolling Stones discography, 25 studio albums through 2016 and recorded 422 songs. The original lineup consisted of multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones, lead vocalist Mick Jagger, guitarist Keith Richards, bass guitarist Bill Wyman, drummer Charlie Watts, and keyboardist Ian Stewart (musician), Ian Stewart. Stewart was dismissed from the lineup in 1963 but continued to serve as their road manager and de facto keyboard player. Following Jones' dismissal in 1969, Mick Taylor took over lead guitar duties until 1974, when he quit the group over issues of songwriting credits. He was replaced by ex Faces (band), Faces guitarist Ronnie Wood. The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989. The group continues to write, tour, and produce to this day. ''Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass)'' is the first compilation album by the Rolling Stones. With different cover art and track listings, it was released on 28 March 1966, on London Records in the US and on 4 November 1966, by Decca Records in the UK. The American edition focused on songs from 1964 and 1965 with two new tunes: the recent " 19th Nervous Breakdown" and the re-recorded " Time Is on My Side" with the guitar intro. The British version covered a longer period, from the group's first single A-side in 1963, "Come On", to several songs from 1966, including the recent hit "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" A bootleg recording is an audio or video recording of a performance not officially released by the artist or under other legal authority. Making and distributing such recordings is known as ''bootlegging''. Recordings may be copied and traded among fans without financial exchange, but some bootleggers have sold recordings for profit, sometimes by adding professional-quality sound engineering and packaging to the raw material. The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) () is an American not-for-profit performance-rights organization (PRO) that collectively licenses the public performance rights of its members' musical works to venues, broadcasters, and digital streaming services (music stores). Andrew Loog Oldham
Andrew Loog Oldham (born 29 January 1944) is an English record producer, talent manager, impresario and author. He was manager and producer of the Rolling Stones from 1963 to 1967, and was noted for his flamboyant style. Early life Loog Oldham's father, Andrew Loog, was a United States Army Air Force lieutenant, a New Orleanian of German descent, who served with the Eighth Air Force. Loog was killed in June 1943 when his B-17 bomber was shot down over the English Channel, and he was buried at the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium. Nanker Phelge
Nanker Phelge (a.k.a. Nanker/Phelge) was a collective pseudonym used between 1963 and 1965 for several Rolling Stones group compositions. Stones bassist Bill Wyman explained the origins of the name in his 2002 book, ''Rolling with the Stones'': Thus anything credited to Nanker Phelge refers to a Mick Jagger/Brian Jones/Keith Richards/ Charlie Watts/ Bill Wyman/Andrew Loog Oldham collaborative composition. The ASCAP files for the very earliest Nanker Phelge compositions also list early Rolling Stones member Ian Stewart (also known as "the sixth Stone") as a co-author covered by the pseudonym. The name resurfaced in the late 1960s on the labels of the original vinyl pressings of '' Beggars Banquet'' and ''Let It Bleed''. Captured during a prolific spurt of recording activity at Chess Studios in Chicago that June, ''Five by Five'' was released that August in the UK shortly after their debut album, ''The Rolling Stones'', had appeared. The title of ''Five by Five'' is a play on words—five tracks recorded by the five members of the band. "2120 South Michigan Avenue" is an original instrumental by the Rolling Stones, recorded for their second EP ''Five by Five''. It was also released on their second US album '' 12 X 5'' in 1964. Composer credit goes to Nanker Phelge, a title giving credit equally to all members of the band. In the book ''Rolling with the Stones'', Bill Wyman recalls that the composition process started with him playing a bass riff and that the others followed on jamming. The title refers to the address of the offices and recording studios of Chess Records and Checker Records in Chicago, where the five songs for the EP were recorded in June 1964. AllMusic reviewer Richie Unterberger described the track as "a great groovin' original blues-rock jam". ''Their Satanic Majesties Request'' is the 6th British and 8th American studio album by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released in December 1967 by Decca Records in the UK and by London Records in the US. It is their first to be released in identical versions in both countries. The album's title is a play on the "Her Britannic Majesty requests and requires..." text that appears inside a British passport. "2000 Light Years from Home" is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones, released on their 1967 album ''Their Satanic Majesties Request''.
