Metropolitan Borough Of Knowsley
The Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley is a metropolitan borough in Merseyside, North West England. It covers several towns and villages, including Kirkby, Prescot, Huyton, Whiston, Halewood, Cronton and Stockbridge Village; Kirkby, Huyton, and Prescot being the major commercial centres. It takes its name from the village of Knowsley, though its headquarters are in Huyton. It forms part of the wider Liverpool City Region. The borough was formed on 1 April 1974 by the merger of Huyton-with-Roby Urban District, Kirkby Urban District and Prescot Urban District, along with most of Whiston Rural District and a small part of West Lancashire Rural District, all from the administrative county of Lancashire. Stockbridge Village
Stockbridge Village is an area of Knowsley in Merseyside, England. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 6,018. It was the subject of an article in a special report by ''The Economist'' entitled "A new kind of ghetto", which described it a predominantly White area of high unemployment and low aspirations. History The original Cantril Farm council estate was built in the mid 1960s to rehouse some 15,000 people from inner-city slum clearances in Liverpool. It was part of a deal to rehouse some 200,000 people from inner-city Liverpool in new residential areas beyond the city's borders, with other families from inner-city Liverpool moving to other overspill places including Leasowe, Huyton, Kirkby, Halewood, Skelmersdale and Runcorn New Town from the 1950s into the 1970s. Knowsley Community College is a further education college based over three sites in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, in Merseyside, England. History The college was established in 1990 as a tertiary college, as a result of a merger between Kirkby College of Further Education and Knowsley Central Tertiary College. St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Academy, Whiston
St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Academy (formerly St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School) is a coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school located in Whiston in the English county of Merseyside. The school is named after Saint Edmund Arrowsmith, one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales. Formerly St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School was located on Scotchbarn Lane. In 2010 the school relocated to a new building located on the site of the former Knowsley Higher Side Comprehensive School on Cumber Lane. The new-build was funded as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme, and the new school was named St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Centre for Learning. The Prescot School
The Prescot School is a coeducational secondary school located in Prescot, Merseyside, England. It was previously called Prescot Grammar School. It was announced in late 2015 by the headteacher, Judy Walker, that the historic name and the link to the school's near half-millennium of tradition (which had been deprecated between 2009-2015 by the local authority) was being restored as a consequence of a successful application by the school for academy status. The official opening of the reformed school was on 28 April. The main historical source is local historian F. A. Bailey's 40 page pamphlet published to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the school in 1944 and reissued in 1971 under the title ''PGS 1544 - 1971'' with postscripts by G. Lord Derby Academy
Lord Derby Academy is a coeducational secondary school. It has an academy status located in Huyton in the English county of Merseyside. Previously known as Knowsley Hey High School, in 2009 the school was merged with Bowring Comprehensive School to form Huyton Sports and Arts Centre for Learning on the site of Knowsley Hey. The school was completely rebuilt under the Building Schools for the Future programme. In February 2014 the school converted to academy status and was renamed Lord Derby Academy. The school is part of The Dean Trust which also includes Ashton-on-Mersey School in Sale as well as Broadoak School and Forest Gate Academy. In 2019 Lord Derby Academy was found to be "Requires Improvement" by Ofsted. They disagreed with this, which led to the delayed publication of the Ofsted Report. Kirkby High School is a Knowsley based co-educational secondary school educating pupils aged 11–16 years of age in the Kirkby area of Merseyside, England. History Previously known as 'Brookfield High School', in 2008 the school was merged with Ruffwood School to form 'Kirkby Sports College Centre for Learning' on the site of Brookfield. Halewood Academy
Halewood Academy is a secondary school in Halewood, Merseyside, United Kingdom, with over 1,100 students. The current principal is Mr I Critchley. History The school was built under the private finance initiative and opened in 2009 as Halewood Centre for Learning, but became an Academy in May 2013. All Saints Catholic High School is a Knowsley based Roman Catholic secondary school educating pupils aged 11–18 years of age in the Kirkby area of Merseyside, England. The school also operates a sixth form. History All Saints CCfL opened on 11 January 2010, following the closure of the Bewley Drive site in December 2009.
