List Of Roller Derby Leagues
This is a list of notable roller derby leagues, and may include those that are no longer in existence. Existence dates, where known, are included to provide a timeline charting the sport's growth cycles. The list may currently make distinctions according to each organization's professional/amateur business structure and active/defunct status, and is subdivided by gender (female or male-only, or co-ed) and age (adult versus junior). Within each subcategory, leagues are then listed according to region, by country and city. South Sea Roller Derby
South Sea Roller Derby (SSRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in south-eastern Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. South Sea has two travel teams that play teams from other leagues. South Sea is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History South Sea Roller Derby (SSRD) was founded by former Victorian Roller Derby League (VRDL) member, Misty Meaner, in 2009, after VRDL moved its training location and her travel time dramatically increased. This sparked an idea to create a league to cater for girls living on the south east side of the city. After scouting around, she found Peninsula Skateworld at Carrum Downs, whose owners were keen to help bring roller derby to the area. Recruitment of skaters began in early 2009, with regular training sessions starting in August. Lady Malice, a former VRDL fresh meat coordinator, offered her services as a coach. Geelong Roller Derby League
Geelong Roller Derby (GRD) is a roller derby league based in the Victorian city of Geelong. Founded in 2008, the GRD has one team that competes and in interleague bouts. They support both men and women in the league, but their current competitive teams are women only. History The Geelong Roller Derby League was founded in March 2008, and by 31 October of that year they were able to present their first bout. This first event was for family and friends only, and featured the Frankenskaters and the Bloody Marys – the latter of which was the origin of the name of their current interleague team. Their first public match was held just over a month later, on 6 December 2008, in which the Death Leopards competed against the Black Sadists. Ballarat Roller Derby (BRD) is a roller derby league based in the Victorian city of Ballarat. Founded in 2008, the league has three competitive co-ed home teams, two junior roller derby teams, an all-female away/travel team and a referee team. History The Ballarat Roller Derby League was founded in June 2008, with the aim to have their first public bout by late 2009. Convict City Roller Derby League (CCR) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Hobart, Tasmania. It was Tasmania's second league at its formation in 2009. Convict City is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History Convict City's first public bout, "Inaugural Brawl", came courtesy of Van Diemen Rollers in late 2010, where they were soundly defeated by the Diemens. Convict City had their first interstate interleague bout in November, 2010, when Ballarat Roller Derby League ("The Rat Pack") travelled to Tasmania to take them on. Ballarat won by a convincing 213 points to 56.
