Marisa Rene Abegg (born March 14, 1987) is an American retired soccer defender. Early career She attended Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon. College Abegg played for the Stanford Cardinal women's soccer team from 2005 to 2008, starting in all ninety-one matches that Stanford played during her college career and scoring three goals. Professional career Abegg was drafted by FC Gold Pride at the 2009 WPS Draft. Despite being promoted from the developmental roster to the full squad, Abegg was deemed surplus to requirements at season's close by Albertin Montoya. She appeared for FC Gold Pride in 6 games. Ethan Berkowitz
Ethan Avram Berkowitz (born February 4, 1962) is an American attorney, businessman, and politician from Alaska. From 1997 to 2007 he was the Alaska State Representative for District 26, serving as the Democratic Party Minority Leader from 1999 to 2007. He was the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor in 2006, for Alaska's at-large congressional district in 2008, and for governor in 2010. He was elected mayor of Anchorage in 2015, and reelected in 2018. Berkowitz resigned as mayor of Anchorage in October 2020 after admitting to being in a "consensual, inappropriate messaging relationship" with a reporter. Edith Bullock
Edith Rose Bullock (April 4, 1903 – May 8, 1994) was an American businesswoman and politician active in Alaska during its territorial and early statehood eras. She was named "Alaskan of the Year" in 1979, making her the first woman to be given the title. Bullock was also the first woman to be named to the Alaska Chamber of Commerce. In 2009, she was named to the inaugural induction class of the Alaska Women's Hall of Fame. Early life and work Edith Bullock was born in Red Lodge, Montana and grew up in Everett and Prosser, Washington. She came to the territory of Alaska in 1939, initially settling in Nome. Miss America is an annual competition that is open to women from the United States between the ages of 17 and 25. Originating in 1921 as a "bathing beauty revue", the contest is now judged on competitors' talent performances and interviews. As of 2018, there is no longer a swimsuit portion to the contest, or consideration of physical appearance. Miss America travels about 20,000 miles a month, changing her location every 24 to 48 hours, touring the nation and promoting her particular platform of interest. Miss Alaska
The Miss Alaska competition is a scholarship pageant that selects the representative for the state of Alaska in the Miss America pageant. Unlike most state-level pageants in the Miss America system, Alaska allows any eligible woman to enter the Miss Alaska pageant without first having to win a local qualifying pageant. Jessica Reisinger of Anchorage was crowned Miss Alaska 2022 on June 16, 2022, at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts in Anchorage, Alaska. Emma Leigh Broyles (born July 25, 2001) was crowned Miss Alaska 2021 and Miss America 2022 on December 16, 2021, its 100th anniversary. She is the first Miss Alaska to be crowned Miss America. She is also the first titleholder outside of the contiguous United States since Angela Perez Baraquio of Hawaii in Miss America 2001. During the Miss America competition, Broyles highlighted her vulnerability and openness on social media about having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dermatillomania (the repeated urge or impulse to pick at one's own skin), as well as her history with volunteering for the Special Olympics.
