In the 1950s and 1960s "a third vinyl format" was introduced alongside long-playing (LP) albums, and singles. The extended play (EP) used the same formats as singles but contained more tracks. Singles were the popular record format at the time – predominantly 10-inch 78 rpm and 7-inch 45 rpm formats – and the first singles chart was published by ''New Musical Express'' in 1952 with many other publications also producing singles charts in the 1950s and 1960s. ''Record Mirror'' published the first album chart in 1956 and, when ''Record Retailer'' began compiling an LP chart on 12 March 1960, they also compiled an EP chart. The EP chart consisted of a top ten and was expanded to fifteen positions the following week, and twenty the week after that. EPs "died out in the late 1960s" and ''Record Retailer'' reduced the chart to ten positions on 16 April 1966, publishing the final EP chart on 16 December 1967. Donovan Phillips Leitch (born 10 May 1946), known mononymously as Donovan, is a Scotland, Scottish musician, songwriter, and record producer. He developed an eclectic and distinctive style that blended Folk music, folk, jazz, Pop music, pop, psychedelic rock and world music (notably calypso music, calypso). He has lived in Scotland, Hertfordshire (England), London, California, and—since at least 2008—in County Cork, Ireland, with his family. Long Tall Sally (EP)
''Long Tall Sally'' is the fifth UK EP release by British rock band the Beatles and the band's first UK EP to include songs not previously released on an album or single in the United Kingdom. (Side 1 had been released in America that April, on ''The Beatles' Second Album'', while Side 2 would be released in July on the North American album '' Something New''.) It was released by Parlophone in mono, with the catalogue number GEP 8913, and released in the United Kingdom on 19 June 1964. It was also released in Spain and France. The EP includes three cover versions— the title track, "Slow Down" and "Matchbox"—as well as one Lennon-McCartney original, "I Call Your Name," a song originally given to Billy J. ''Disc'' was a weekly British popular music magazine, published between 1958 and 1975, when it was incorporated into ''Record Mirror''. It was also known for periods as ''Disc Weekly '' (1964–1966) and ''Disc and Music Echo '' (1966–1972). The Crickets
The Crickets were an American rock and roll band from Lubbock, Texas, formed by singer-songwriter Buddy Holly in January 1957. Their first hit record, "That'll Be the Day", released in May 1957, peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Top 100 chart on September 16, 1957. The sleeve of their first album, ''The "Chirping" Crickets'', shows the band line-up at the time: Holly on lead vocals and lead guitar, Niki Sullivan on rhythm guitar, Jerry Allison on drums, and Joe B. Robert Thomas Velline (April 30, 1943 – October 24, 2016), known professionally as Bobby Vee, was an American singer who was a teen idol in the early 1960s and also appeared in films. According to '' Billboard'' magazine, he had thirty-eight Hot 100 chart hits, ten of which reached the Top 20. He had six gold singles in his career. Life Vee was born in Fargo, North Dakota, to Sydney Ronald Velline (a chef, pianist and fiddle player) and Saima Cecelia Tapanila, in a family of Norwegian and Finnish heritage. Personal life Vee and Karen Bergen married December 28, 1963. In the early 1980s, Vee moved his family from Los Angeles to near St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he and Karen organized annual fundraising concerts to provide music and arts facilities for local children. ''The Black and White Minstrel Show'' was a British light entertainment show that ran for twenty years on BBC prime-time television.
