Succinella oblonga (Draparnaud, 1801). Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at: https://marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=1002806 on 2022-07-10 ''Succinella oblonga'' is the type species of the genus '' Succinella''. Description The shell is c. 8 mm in height and up 4.5 mm wide. It has 3 to 3½ strongly arched whorls which are set off from each other by a deep suture. The last whorl is highly inflated, the aperture height occupying about half of the total height. The shell is dextral and relatively thick-walled. The shell is opaque, the surface is matte. The colour is amber on the coast, inland it is rather pale yellowish grey to greenish white in colour. The surface is rough and bears somewhat irregular growth bands. Often the surface layer is camouflaged with dirt or dro ...

Succinea Putris
''Succinea putris'' is a species of small air-breathing land snail in the family Succineidae, the amber snails. Description The 10-17 (27) x 6-8 mm has 3-4 whorls. These are relatively flat and with shallow sutures. The body whorl is massive and the aperture is much greater than 50% of shell height. The spire is small. In color the shell is amber yellow. The visible soft parts are yellow with a reddish hue, which becomes lighter downwards to the sides. The animal can also be dark grey. Succineidae are a family of small to medium-sized, air-breathing land snails (and slugs), terrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Succineoidea.MolluscaBase eds. (2021). MolluscaBase. Succineidae Beck, 1837. Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at: http://marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=181585 on 2021-02-23 They are commonly called amber snails because their thin fragile shells are translucent and amber-colored. They usually live in damp habitats such as marshes. Succineidae is the only family in the superfamily Succineoidea. The soft parts of the animal appear to be too large for the shell.Janus, Horst, 1965. ‘’The young specialist looks at land and freshwater molluscs’’, Burke, London Anatomy In this family, the number of haploid chromosomes varies greatly. The most common totals are less than 10, and also lies between 21 and 25, but other values are also possible (according to the values in this table).Barker G. M ...

Planorbidae
Planorbidae, common name the ramshorn snails or ram's horn snails, is a family of air-breathing freshwater snails, aquatic pulmonate gastropod molluscs. Unlike most molluscs, the blood of ram's horn snails contains iron-based hemoglobin instead of copper-based hemocyanin. As a result, planorbids are able to breathe oxygen more efficiently than other molluscs. The presence of hemoglobin gives the body a reddish colour. This is especially apparent in albino animals. Being air breathers like other ''Panpulmonata'', planorbids do not have gills, but instead have a lung. The foot and head of planorbids are rather small, while their thread-like tentacles are relatively long. Many of the species in this family have coiled shells that are planispiral, in other words, the shells are more or less coiled flat, rather than having an elevated spire as is the case in most gastropod shells. Although they carry their shell in a way that makes it appear to be dextral, the shell of coiled pl ...
