Gobblers Knob (Utah)
Gobblers Knob is a mountain summit located in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. Description Gobblers Knob is the highest point in the Mount Olympus Wilderness, and is set on land managed by Wasatch National Forest. This peak is situated in the Wasatch Range which is a subset of the Rocky Mountains, and with Salt Lake City 12 miles to the west and Park City 10 miles to the east, it is a popular hiking destination. Neighbors include Mount Raymond 1.5 mile to the southwest and Kesler Peak is 3.2 miles to the south. Precipitation runoff from the mountain's north slope drains to Mill Creek, whereas the south slope drains to Big Cottonwood Creek. Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises above Mill Creek Canyon in 1.5 mile. The Wasatch Front is a metropolitan region in the north-central part of the U.S. state of Utah. It consists of a chain of contiguous cities and towns stretched along the Wasatch Range from approximately Provo in the south to Logan in the north, and containing the cities of Salt Lake City, Bountiful, Layton, and Ogden. Geography The Wasatch Front is long and narrow. The Wasatch Range ( ) or Wasatch Mountains is a mountain range in the western United States that runs about from the Utah-Idaho border south to central Utah. Lone Peak (Utah)
Lone Peak, a mountain peak southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah, United States is the center of the Lone Peak Wilderness, established in 1978. With an elevation of , it is one of the taller peaks in the Wasatch Range along the Wasatch Front and tends to be a favorite hike. The first person in recorded history to successfully hike Lone Peak was Richard Bell, Sr. of Riverton, Utah. Richard also lead the first recorded climb of the Lone Peak Cirque. He went on to lead several expeditions and taught the first guides. Bell Canyon is still a common route to the summit, and was named after Richard Bell Sr. following his historic climb. Lone Peak consists almost entirely of quartz monzonite (a granitoid, or granite-like) rock of the 30.5 million year old Little Cottonwood Stock. The Lake Mountains (also known as simply Lake Mountain) are a mountain range located on the western edge of the Utah Valley in northwestern Utah County, Utah, United States. The range forms the northwest border of Utah Lake, and its proximity to major population centers allows its use for communication towers, mostly in its north section, bordering Eagle Mountain. Cascade Mountain (Utah)
Cascade Mountain is located in central Utah (Utah County just east of Provo and Orem Utah). With an elevation of , it is not as high as its neighbors, to the north Mount Timpanogos () and Provo Peak () to the south, but it is one of the major peaks of the Wasatch Range. Hiking There are several access routes to the summit. The safest and easiest routes are either from the Dry Fork trail that starts at the Rock Canyon Campground to the southwest of the mountain or the Big Springs trails from the east. Mount Wire
Mount Wire (also known as Wire Mountain or Big Beacon) is a mountain located on the east side of Salt Lake City, Utah with an elevation of . The mountain is named after Lester Wire, an American policeman of Salt Lake City, Utah, who in 1912 developed the first red-green electric traffic light. Mount Wire is a common spot for adventurous hikers and has many access trails, some created by nearby Red Butte Gardens. The east side of the University of Utah offers direct access to trails to the summit. Mount Wire formerly could be identified from other nearby mountains by its two passive microwave repeaters near the summit. These billboard like structures were used to bounce microwave signals over the mountain to the north-eastern parts of Utah. Mount Wire also houses an old airway beacon directly on the summit. Mount Van Cott
Mount Van Cott is a mountain located in the Wasatch Mountain Range immediately east of the University of Utah with an elevation of . The mountain is a common spot for hikers as well as mountain bikers and has many access trails. The east side of the University of Utah offers direct access to trails to the summit. Most trails to the summit branch off of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. The most obvious of these trails is a scar on the mountain that is located on its southwestern flank. The mountain is named after Lucy May Van Cott, the first dean of women (1907–1931) at the University of Utah and daughter of John Van Cott. Hiking Like the adjacent mountains, hiking to the summit can be moderately difficult as the terrain is fairly unforgiving. Mount Superior (also known as Superior Peak) is an mountain peak in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. With prominent visibility from Utah State Route 210 in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and being only 35 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City, it is a popular hiking, climbing, and skiing destination.
