Marama Teururai
Prince Marama Teururai later known as Regent Marama (17 December 1851 – 7 June 1909) was a member of a Tahitian royal family (House of Teururai) which reigned on the Tahitian island of Huahine during the 19th century. He was designated as a crown prince of Huahine when his father became king of Huahine in 1852. He never became king of Huahine. Biography Prince Marama Teururai was born at Huahine in 1851. He was the second son of King Ari'imate. His mother, Princess Maerehia Teha'apapa of Raiatea, was the only living child of King Tamatoa IV of Raiatea. She became Queen regnant of Huahine under the reign name of Teha'apapa II after her husband was deposed in 1868. The Polynesian island of Raiatea, in the Society Islands, was a kingdom from the 18th century until its annexation by France in 1888. After Tamatoa VI's abdication, a rebel government was set up by chief Teraupoo with Queen Tuarii as its figurehead until French colonial forces ended the native resistance and exiled the leaders in 1897. This is a list of monarchs of Tahiti, all of which belonged to the Pōmare dynasty. They carried the title '' Ari'i rahi''. Monarchs of Tahiti Family tree Current status In 2006, Tauatomo Mairau claimed to be the heir to the Tahitian throne, and attempted to re-assert the status of the monarchy in court. His claims were not recognized by France. On 28 May 2009, Joinville Pōmare, an adopted member of the Pōmare family, declared himself King Pōmare XI, during a ceremony attended by descendants of leading chiefs but spurned by members of his own family. Other members of the family recognised his uncle, Léopold Pōmare, as heir to the throne. He attempted to have royal trust lands returned to him and his family. The French government mortgaged the land after World War II, and in doing so violated the terms of the agreement signed with Pōmare V in 1880 which reserved control of the trust lands for the royal family of Tahiti. Princess Teri'i-na-vaha-roa (8 August 1879 – 27 April 1917) was the last sovereign monarch of the Kingdom of Huahine and Mai'ao from 1893 to 1895. Comteporary sources seems to call her Tehaapapa II instead, disregarding the ruling Tehaapapa I, queen by the same name at the time James Cook visited the island. Biography Te-ha'apapa III was a member of a royal Tahitians, Tahitian dynasty, the deposed royal family Teururai of Huahine. As a Tahitian Princess, she became Queen regnant, Queen of Huahine. She was the last Queen of Huahine from 1893 to 1895. She was the eldest daughter of Marama Teururai, prince regent of Huahine by his wife Tetuanuimarama a Te-u-ru-ari'i, Princess of Rurutu. Te-mari'i-a-Teurura'i Ma'i-hara Te-uhe (1840 – 21 August 1891) was a Polynesian queen who reigned the kingdom of Huahine in 18 March 1888 – 22 July 1890 under the reign name Teuhe; her name had also been given as Teuhe II. She belongs to the Teururai family of Huahine. Family She was born at Huahine, ca. 1840. She was the eldest daughter of Queen Tehaapapa II and King Arii-mate of Huahine. She was proclaimed as Queen Teuhe during an insurrection against France on February 22, 1888 and fled to Tahiti to seek protection under her former husband, Pomare V, 22 July 1890. Marriage She married as his first wife, at Huahine, on 11 November 1857 (div. 5 August 1861), Pōmare V, King of Tahiti, eldest surviving son of Pōmare IV, Queen of Tahiti, by her second husband. They divorced on 5 August 1861. She died without issue at Papeete, 21 August 1891.
