In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Rockford, Illinois
Rockford is a city in Winnebago County, Illinois, located in the far northern part of the state. Situated on the banks of the Rock River, Rockford is the county seat of Winnebago County (a small portion of the city is located in Ogle County). The largest city in Illinois outside of the Chicago metropolitan area, Rockford is the fifth-largest city in the state and the 171st most populous in the United States. According to 2020 U.S. Census data, the City of Rockford had a population of 148,655 with an outlying metropolitan area population of 348,360. Settled in the mid-1830s, the position of the city on the Rock River made its location strategic for industrial development. William Brown (Illinois)
William Brown (June 1, 1819 – January 15, 1891) was an English American businessman and politician. He served one term in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1864 to 1866, then was elected mayor of Rockford, Illinois for one term. Brown was elected to the Illinois Circuit Courts in 1870 and served there until his death in 1891. Biography William Brown was born in Cumberland, England on June 1, 1819. He immigrated with his family to Oneida County, New York, United States in 1827. Brown studied law in Rome, New York and was admitted to the bar. He moved to Rockford, Illinois on November 10, 1846. Initially a public school teacher, Brown was soon elected a justice of the peace. In 1852, Brown was elected state's attorney for Winnebago, Stephenson, and Jo Daviess Counties, serving three years. Albert Fowler
Albert Fowler (September 7, 1802 – April 12, 1883) was an American pioneer and politician. Fowler was born to Elijah Fowler and his wife in Tyringham, Massachusetts. After his father's death, Fowler's mother and his family moved to Chautauqua County, New York. In 1832 Fowler moved to Chicago, where he stayed briefly before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 18, 1833. There he worked as a clerk for Solomon Juneau. As there were few white settlers yet in the area, Fowler learned the Potawatomi and Menominee languages. His Native American acquaintances knew him as Mis-kee-o-quoneu, or "Red Cap," for his preferred head covering. Fowler was appointed as the first clerk for the newly formed Milwaukee County in 1835. At the same time, he was made a justice of the peace. He was a member of the second (and only successful) Wisconsin state constitutional convention in 1847. Douglas Pearce, known professionally as Douglas P (born 27 April 1956), is an English folk musician, record label owner, photographer and actor who is best known for his neofolk project Death in June. Pearce was born in Sheerwater in Woking, Surrey, and currently resides in Australia, where he has lived since the mid 90s. Early life Pearce was born on 27 April 1956, and grew up in Sheerwater, suburb of Woking in Surrey which he described as a "white, working-class ghetto", to a father who worked as a courier for the military, and had served in World War II.
