This is a list of the Shire Presidents and Mayors of Ku-ring-gai Council and its predecessors, a local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The official title of Mayors while holding office is: His/Her Worship the Mayor of Ku-ring-gai. The current Mayor of Ku-ring-gai is Cr. Jeff Pettett (Independent), who was elected on 11 January 2022. Development of the office Ku-ring-gai was first incorporated on 6 March 1906 as the "Shire of Ku-ring-gai" and the first Shire Council was elected on 24 November 1906. The first leader of the council was elected at the first meeting on 8 December 1906, when Councillor William Cowan was elected as Shire President. There would not be a Deputy President until the council election on 1 March 1920. On 22 September 1928, the Shire of Ku-ring-gai was proclaimed as the "Municipality of Ku-ring-gai" and the titles of 'Shire President' and 'Councillor' were retitled to be 'Mayor' and 'Alderman' respectively. Ku-ring-gai Council
Ku-ring-gai Council is a local government area in Northern Sydney ( Upper North Shore), in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The area is named after the Guringai Aboriginal people who were thought to be the traditional owners of the area. More contemporary research suggests that this was not the case. Major transport routes through the area include the Pacific Highway and North Shore railway line. Because of its good soils and elevated position as part of the Hornsby Plateau, Ku-ring-gai was originally covered by a large area of dry sclerophyll forest, parts of which still remain and form a component of the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. Worship is an honorific prefix for mayors, justices of the peace and magistrates in present or former Commonwealth realms. William FitzSimons
William Robert FitzSimons (26 November 1870 – 20 March 1926) was an Irish-born Australian politician. He was born at Greencastle in County Donegal to constable Samuel FitzSimons and Isabella, ''née'' McCloy. He arrived in New South Wales around 1886 and began studying dentistry. He married Bessie Amy Love, with whom he had two children. He practised as a dentist in Elizabeth and Macquarie Streets from 1905 to 1926, and also served on Kuringai Shire Council from 1911 to 1922 (president 1917–21). Walter Cresswell O'Reilly
alterCresswell O'Reilly (6 June 1877 – 20 December 1954) was an Australian public servant who became Chief Commonwealth Film Censor. He "dominated and shaped Australian film censorship" and was able to "define appropriate mass entertainment" for nearly twenty years. He was the founding president of the National Trust of Australia (NSW) and an early urban conservationist. Harry Jago
Arnold Henry Jago (13 March 1913 – 17 September 1997), was a Liberal member of the New South Wales parliament representing the seat Gordon and a Minister of the Crown. Early life Jago was born in the Sydney suburb of Chatswood and educated at Newington College (1927–1928)Newington College Register of Past Students 1863-1998 (Syd, 1999) pp98 before moving into a career of banking with the Bank of New South Wales in 1929. Adrienne Ryan
Adrienne Margaret Ryan (née Butterworth; born 19 October 1960 in Skipton, Yorkshire) is a former Councillor and Mayor of Ku-ring-gai Council in Sydney, New South Wales. She was married to former Commissioner of the New South Wales Police Peter Ryan. They divorced in 2011 after an extended separation. She and her two daughters moved to Sydney in 1997 when her husband became the NSW (New South Wales) Police Commissioner. Prior to coming to Australia, Ryan was also a police officer for a period of time, being involved in the Brixton Riots and Notting Hill race riots in the 1980s. She has an honours degree in politics and international relations from Reading University in the United Kingdom.
