Cheyenne, Wyoming
Cheyenne ( or ) is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Wyoming, as well as the county seat of Laramie County, with 65,132 residents, per the 2020 US Census. It is the principal city of the Cheyenne metropolitan statistical area which encompasses all of Laramie County and had 100,512 residents as of the 2020 census. Local residents named the town for the Cheyenne Native American people in 1867 when it was founded in the Dakota Territory. Cheyenne is the northern terminus of the extensive Southern Rocky Mountain Front, which extends southward to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and includes the fast-growing Front Range Urban Corridor. Luke Murrin
Luke Murrin (died after 1885) was an American politician who served as the 2nd Mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and was the first following its chartering. Early life Luke Murrin was born in County Sligo, Ireland, and immigrated to the United States in 1855. He attended Brown County College and a commercial college in Cincinnati. Career On June 3, 1861, he resigned from his position at a Cincinnati post office and enlisted into the Union Army where he was given the rank of lieutenant in Company K, 10th Ohio Infantry. He was later given the rank of colonel and was promoted to major on March 13, 1865. On March 15, 1865, he was commissioned to the staff of the 193rd Ohio Infantry before being mustered out on August 4, at Winchester, Virginia. Jervis Joslin
Jervis Joslin (September 29, 1835 – January 4, 1899) was an American politician who served as the 5th Mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Early life Jervis Joslin was born on September 29, 1835, to Joseph Joslin and Caroline C. Ruggles in Poultney, Vermont. After graduating from school he started working in jewelry businesses in Poultney. In 1866, he moved to Denver in the Colorado Territory and started a business partnership with Boyd Park named Joslin & Park that would last until his death in 1899. Joslin and Park established jewelry businesses in Denver in May 1866, Cheyenne on December 17, 1867, Salt Lake City in 1871, and Leadville in 1879. In 1867, he married Marian F. Hastings and would later have a son and daughter with her. In 1868, their store in Cheyenne burned down causing $3,000 to $4,000 in losses, but it was rebuilt. Moses Patrick Keefe (September 25, 1853April 24, 1929) was an American politician who served as the 36th Mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Early life Moses Patrick Keefe was born on September 25, 1853, to Michael Keefe and Margaret Quinn in Ireland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He attended school until he was thirteen and immigrated to the United States at age seventeen where he lived in Decatur, Illinois. In 1873, he moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory, but returned to Illinois in 1874. He moved back to the Wyoming Territory in 1876. Ed Warren, born Ed Warren Leisenring, ( 1886/1887April 15, 1963) was an American actor and politician who served as the 35th and 41st Mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Early life Ed Warren Leisenring was born around 1886 or 1887. He became an actor as a child with his two sisters after being introduced by Fred Stone. He later adopted the stage name of Ed Warren as he felt that his last name "Leisenring" was too complicated. His career as an actor ended shortly after 1915 as by that time both of his sisters had left due to getting married. Charles William Nation (May 28, 1925 – April 13, 2022), better known as Bill Nation, was an American politician who served as the 45th and 50th Mayor of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and in the Wyoming House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party. He unsuccessfully sought the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 1966 and election as Laramie County Clerk in 1970. Early life Charles William Nation was born in Lingle, Wyoming on May 28, 1925. During World War II he served as a gunner aboard a destroyer, the USS Schroeder (DD-501), a Fletcher-class destroyer, this was a ship of the United States Navy, named for Rear Admiral Seaton Schroeder.
