Gotland County
Gotland County ( sv, Gotlands län) is a county or '' län'' of Sweden. Gotland is located in the Baltic Sea to the east of Öland, and is the largest of Sweden's islands. Counties are usually sub-divided into municipalities, but Gotland County consists of only one county council, which also serves as a municipality, Region Gotland. Gotland County is the only county in Sweden that is not governed by a municipal council. The municipality handles the tasks that are otherwise handled by the county council: mainly health care and public transport. Like other counties, Gotland has a County Administrative Board, which oversees implementation of the Swedish state government. Both the County Administrative Board and the municipality have their seat in the largest city, Visby, with over 22,000 inhabitants. Maj ''Lillemor'' Arvidsson (1 May 1943 – 23 April 2012) was a Swedish trade union leader and the Governor of Gotland from 1998 to 2004. Arvidsson trained as a nurse and later worked as a nursing assistant at Uddevalla Hospital. Arvidsson engaged simultaneously in trade union work. In 1972, she was employed by the Swedish Municipal Workers' Union as an academic ombudsman. In 1982, she became ombudsman and in 1983 she became Deputy President. In June 1988 she was appointed President of the Swedish Municipal Workers' Union. She became the union's first female President. In addition, she became the first female President of any institution in the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO). From 1990 to 1991 she was also a member of the executive board of the Swedish Social Democratic Worker's Party. Claes Yngve Elmstedt (31 March 1928 – 14 February 2018 in Ronneby) was a Swedish politician. He was a member of the Centre Party. He was elected to the second chamber of parliament from 1965 to 1970, and then from 1971 of the unicameral parliament until 1984. Einar Gustafsson
Gustaf Einar Gustafsson (21 December 1914 – 15 February 1995) was a Swedish farmer and politician. He was a member of the Centre Party and was Governor of Gotland County from 1975 to 1980. Early life Gustafsson was born on 21 December 1914 in Loftahammar, Sweden, the son of Carl Gustafsson and his wife Ebba (née Edlund) and brother of Torsten Gustafsson. He was educated at both Gamleby and Osby Agricultural Schools, after which he worked as a supervisory assistant for a few years. Career During World War II there was something called the ''Jordbrukshjälpen'' ("Agricultural Aid"). In this, Gustafsson was active in Finland in the early 1940s. He also played a decisive role in the acquisition of Mälsåker outside Stockholm, which became a place for Norwegian refugees.
