Geese are bred mainly for their meat, which is particularly popular in Germanic languages countries around Christmas. Of lesser commercial importance is goose breeding for eggs, schmaltz, or for the fattened liver (''foie gras''). A few specialized breeds have been created for the main purpose of weed control (e.g. the Cotton Patch Goose), or as guard animals and (in former times) for goose fights (e.g., the Steinbach Fighting Goose and Tula Fighting Goose). Swan Goose
The swan goose (''Anser cygnoides'') is a large goose with a natural breeding range in inland Mongolia, northernmost China, and the Russian Far East. It is migratory and winters mainly in central and eastern China. Vagrant birds are encountered in Japan and Korea (where it used to winter in numbers when it was more common), and more rarely in Kazakhstan, Laos, coastal Siberia, Taiwan, Thailand and Uzbekistan. While uncommon in the wild, this species has been domesticated. Introduced and feral populations of its domestic breeds occur in many places outside its natural range. The wild form is also kept in collections, and escapes are not unusual amongst feral flocks of other ''Anser'' and ''Branta'' geese. Anhui , (; formerly romanized as Anhwei) is a landlocked province of the People's Republic of China, part of the East China region. Its provincial capital and largest city is Hefei. The province is located across the basins of the Yangtze River and the Huai River, bordering Jiangsu to the east, Zhejiang to the southeast, Jiangxi to the south, Hubei to the southwest, Henan to the northwest, and Shandong for a short section in the north. Alsatian Goose
The Alsatian goose (french: oie d'Alsace), is a breed of goose developed in the French region of Alsace. A small breed, this goose was developed to grow a large and fatty liver for foie gras production. Uses Geese selected for this purpose have shorter legs and wider bodies. This body form allows the development of internal organs, particularly the liver. Geese whose livers are not deemed usable for foie gras are slaughtered for their meat. African Goose
The African goose is a breed of domestic goose derived from the wild swan goose (''Anser cygnoides''). Despite the name African goose, they are not actually from Africa and are descended from the Chinese goose. Origin Its origin has been attributed to many different continents - it arrived in Europe in the late 1700s and North America from ships that traveled around the world in the mid 1800s. Two origin theories persist for the fowl: the first purporting that African is the result of crosses of swan goose and Chinese goose, while the other asserts that it is a direct derivation of the swan goose, and its unique traits are simply the result of selective breeding. The ﾃ僕and goose is a breed of domestic geese originating in ﾃ僕and island in Sweden. Origin ﾃ僕and goose is a landrace which was kept in ﾃ僕and and Gﾃｶtaland. It was standardised in the 1920s. The breed was nearly extinct at the 1970s. Today there are 111 registered animals in Sweden. Description The plumage is pied white and brown-grey. ﾃ僕and goose is generally weighing between 4.5 and 5.5 kg. (male) and 4-5 kg. (female). Emden Flock
Emden () is an independent city and seaport in Lower Saxony in the northwest of Germany, on the river Ems. It is the main city of the region of East Frisia and, in 2011, had a total population of 51,528.
