Anthonys Nose (Victoria)
Anthonys Nose is a point, or escarpment located on the southern shore of Port Phillip Bay, between Dromana, Victoria, Dromana and McCrae, Victoria, McCrae, in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. History It was named by Charles La Trobe, who became the Superintendent of the Port Phillip District of New South Wales in 1839. He thought that the landform had a strong resemblance to Anthony's Nose (Westchester) on the Hudson River, New York. In the early years of the European settlement of Dromana, Victoria, Dromana there were geographical obstacles to travelling by land. A journey from Melbourne to the area meant crossing swamps and streams. Anthony's Nose was the point where Arthur's Seat, Victoria, Arthur's Seat ended as the mountain "fell steeply to the sea". Napoleon's Nose
Cave Hill or Cavehill is a rocky hill overlooking the city of Belfast, Northern Ireland, with a height of . It is marked by basalt cliffs and caves, and its distinguishing feature is 'Napoleon's Nose', a tall cliff which resembles the profile of the emperor Napoleon. On top of this are the remains of an ancient promontory fort called McArt's Fort. Cavehill was also historically called 'Ben Madigan' (from ga, Beann Mhadagáin, "Madagán’s peak"), after a king of Ulster called Madagán who died in 856AD. It forms part of the Belfast Hills and marks the southeastern edge of the Antrim Plateau. All of Belfast can be seen from its peak, as can the Isle of Man and Scotland on clear days. White Nose, Dorset
White Nothe (meaning "White Nose") is a chalk headland on the English Channel coast at the eastern end of Ringstead Bay, east of Weymouth in Dorset, England. The area is well known for its geology and fossils. Its flanks are the result of prehistoric landslides and the inaccessible slopes of the undercliff provide a secluded wildlife habitat. A zigzag path up the cliff is believed to be one of the locations alluded to as a smuggler's path in the British children's book '' Moonfleet'' by J. Meade Falkner. Walking to the base of White Nothe along the shore from Ringstead Bay is possible, but it is cut off at high tide, so much care should be taken. At the top of the Smugglers path, a protruding nose shape comes out of the white cliff, giving the name to the area. The area is partly owned by the National Trust. Vroman's Nose
Vroman's Nose is a prominent geological feature in the town of Fulton (near Middleburgh), in Schoharie County, New York, United States. It is among the more popular hiking sites in upstate New York and is of significant historical note. Discovery and naming Vroman's Nose is a prominent landmark near the Schoharie Creek. The area was inhabited by Iroquois Indians before the coming of the British. Contrary to local belief, the mount was not inhabited by the natives due to a lack of a stable water supply. When the British and Palatines arrived in the Schoharie Valley in the early eighteenth century, the land was ceded to the Vroman family by the British government. Since that time, the landmark has been known for its particular shape. ''The Nose'' is one of the original technical climbing routes up El Capitan. Once considered impossible to climb, El Capitan is now the standard for big-wall climbing. The Devil's Nose
The Devil's Nose is a steep but small mountain ridge that spans from southwest to northeast between the Little Cacapon and Potomac rivers in northeastern Hampshire County, West Virginia. From its southern end near Neals Run on Johnsons Hollow, The Nose rises from the landscape curving along a bend in the Little Cacapon River. From Johnsons Hollow, The Nose continues northeast flanked to its west by a plain at the Little Cacapon's mouth into the Potomac, and to its east by The Nose Hollow and Neals Run-Paw Paw Road (West Virginia Secondary Route 2/6). The Devil's Nose reaches the Potomac River shortly before the Morgan County line. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad separates The Nose from the Potomac's edge. Tegg's Nose is a hill east of Macclesfield in Cheshire, England. It has a short ridge with a high point of 380 metres (1246 feet) at , terminating in a promontory at the southern end. Roman Nose State Park is a state park located in Blaine County, north of Watonga, Oklahoma. Roman Nose State Park is one of the original seven Oklahoma state parks. Nose Hill Park is a natural park in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Alberta which covers over . It is the fourth-largest urban park in Canada, and one of the largest urban parks in North America. It is a municipal park, unlike Fish Creek, which is a provincial park. It was created in 1980. Wildlife The park is large enough to sustain large mammals like white-tailed deer and coyote as well as porcupine, northern pocket gophers, and Richardson's ground squirrels.
