Bangladesh Shipping Corporation
Bangladesh Shipping Corporation is a state-owned, autonomous corporation in Bangladesh. It owns a number of ships and oil tankers, and also charters sea-going vessels from other operators. The vessels are used to carry ready-made garments and other export items, and also to import crude oil from Saudi Arabia and UAE. History In 1971, Pakistan's National Shipping Corporation took all the merchant fleet. Beginning of 1972, Bangladesh inherited no merchant vessel registered under her flag. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman realized the importance of the shipping sector at that time. On 5 February 1972, he established 'Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) under the President Order no-10 of 1972. Dredging Corporation of India Limited, or DCI, is an Indian dredging company which does dredging for Indian seaports exclusively. It occasionally dredges at foreign seaports in countries such as Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Dubai. It is mainly involved in maintenance dredging. Almost all the maintenance dredging in Indian seaports is carried out by DCI due to government regulations. DCI is also involved in capital dredging, beach nourishment, and land reclamation. The main seaports in which DCI does business are Visakhapatnam Port, Haldia, Kandla, Cochin Port and Ennore Port. The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is a government corporation that operates and manages vessels servicing both national and international lines. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, with its headquarters in Mumbai. History SCI was established on 2 October 1961 by the amalgamation of Eastern Shipping Corporation and Western Shipping Corporation. Two more shipping companies, Jayanti Shipping Company and Mogul Lines Limited, were merged with SCI in 1973 and 1986 respectively. SCI started out with 19 vessels.
