The Victorian road network services the population centres, with highways generally radiating from Melbourne and other major cities and rural centres with secondary roads interconnecting the highways to each other. Many of the highways are built to freeway standard. Victoria has the most extensive freeway and road network in Australia. Freeways denoted as M1 Princes Freeway The Princes Freeway is the second longest freeway after the Hume Freeway. It is 159 kilometres long. It continues on from the Princes Highway at Tralagon and ends at the Princes Highway at Geelong. It replaces the Princes Highway between Melbourne and Geelong. Strzelecki Highway
Strzelecki Highway is a short 55 kilometre highway that connects the towns of Leongatha and Morwell. It was named after the Strzelecki Ranges, the set of low mountain ridges the road travels through. History The passing of the '' Transport Act of 1983'' (itself an evolution from the original ''Highways and Vehicles Act of 1924'') provided for the declaration of State Highways, roads two-thirds financed by the State government through the Road Construction Authority (later VicRoads). The Strzelecki Highway was declared a State Highway in December 1990, from Leongatha to Morwell; before this declaration, the road was referred to as Leongatha-Yarragon Road, Mountain Hut Road, and Morwell-Thorpdale Road. Hallam, Victoria
Hallam is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 34 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Casey local government area. Hallam recorded a population of 11,355 at the 2021 census. The suburb has its own railway station. Warrigal Road
Warrigal Road is a major inner urban road in southeastern Melbourne, Australia. On weekdays, it is heavily trafficked as it runs through many major suburbs along its route, traversing some of Melbourne's eastern and south-eastern suburbs. These suburbs include Chadstone, Oakleigh, and Cheltenham. The Chadstone Shopping Centre can be accessed directly from Warrigal Road at its eastern entrance. Burke Road is a major north–south thoroughfare in Melbourne, Australia. It runs from Ivanhoe East to Caulfield East and through the major shopping district at Camberwell. It is aligned with the western boundary of Elgar's Special Survey, and does not conform to the interval cadastral survey grid for Melbourne. State (Bell/Springvale) Highway, also known as Bell Street/Springvale Road State Highway (after its longest constituent parts), is the longest self-contained urban highway in Melbourne, Australia, linking Tullamarine Freeway and Nepean Highway through Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs. These names are not widely known to most drivers, as the entire allocation is still best known as by the names of its constituent parts: Bell Street, Banksia Street, Manningham Road, Williamsons Road, Doncaster Road, Mitcham Road, Springvale Road and Edithvale Road. EastLink, Melbourne
EastLink is a tolled section of the M3 freeway linking a large area through the eastern and south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. EastLink is electronically tolled with no cash booths, using a system developed by SICE. The SICE Tolling System is similar to (and interoperable with) the '' e-TAG'' system used on the CityLink tollway. EastLink was opened to traffic on Sunday 29 June 2008 and in conjunction with the opening, a month-long toll-free period occurred before regular tolling commenced on 27 July 2008. The project was constructed by a joint venture of Australian construction companies Thiess Contractors and John Holland, with tolling system contracted to SICE, and mechanical and electrical work contracted to United Group Infrastructure. South Gippsland Freeway
South Gippsland Freeway is a short freeway linking Dandenong in Melbourne's south–east to other south–eastern destinations, including the Mornington Peninsula and the Gippsland region. The freeway bears the designation M420. Route South Gippsland Freeway starts at the interchange with Monash Freeway in Endeavour Hills and runs south as a four-lane, dual-carriageway route, under the Princes Highway at Eumemmering, over the Pakenham railway line, then along the western border Hampton Park until it ends at the interchange with the South Gippsland and Western Port Highways in Lynbrook. Warrnambool ( Maar: ''Peetoop'' or ''Wheringkernitch'' or ''Warrnambool'') is a city on the south-western coast of Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 census, Warrnambool had a population of 35,743.
