List Of First Gentlemen In The United States
In the United States, the title of first gentleman may be accorded to a man who is married to the head of state of a state government, analogously to the unofficial use of first lady for the wife or hostess of a head of state, including the wife of the president of the United States. Thus far there has been no first gentleman of the United States (i.e. male spouse of a president); however, Doug Emhoff became the first second gentleman of the United States when his wife Kamala Harris became vice president in 2021. The first man formally to serve as first gentleman was James E. Ferguson in 1925, a former governor of Texas who was forced from office due to corruption charges, and whose wife Miriam A. Mary Carolyn "Jodi" Rell (née Reavis; born June 16, 1946) is an American former Republican politician and the 87th governor of Connecticut from 2004 until 2011. Bill Orr (Nebraska First Gentleman)
William Dayton Orr (March 15, 1935 – May 5, 2013) was an American insurance executive and author. The husband of former Nebraska Governor Kay A. Orr, he served as the state's first and only First Gentleman to date from 1987 to 1991. Orr's position as a state First Gentleman, an unusual political occupation for a man at the time, earned him national attention. In 1989, Orr published a popular cookbook, the ''First Gentleman's Cookbook'', which sold thousands of copies nationwide. Judith Helen Martz (née Morstein; July 28, 1943 – October 30, 2017) was an American Republican Party politician, businesswoman, and Olympian speed skater who served as the 22nd governor of Montana from 2001 to 2005. Gretchen Whitmer
Gretchen Esther Whitmer (born August 23, 1971) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the 49th governor of Michigan since 2019. Raymond Sindo Blanco (August 16, 1935 – November 19, 2022) was an American academic administrator and football coach who served as the First Gentleman of Louisiana from 2004 to 2008 during the gubernatorial tenure of his wife, then Governor of Louisiana Kathleen Blanco.
