The practice of creating films based on comic strips dates back to the early years of film itself. Gag Cartoon
A gag cartoon (also panel cartoon, single-panel cartoon, or gag panel) is most often a single-panel cartoon, usually including a caption beneath the drawing. A pantomime cartoon carries no caption. In some cases, dialogue may appear in speech balloons, following the common convention of comic strips. As the name implies—"gag" being a show business term for a comedic idea—these cartoons are most often intended to provoke laughter. Popular magazines that have featured gag cartoons include ''Punch'', ''The New Yorker'' and ''Playboy''. Plot Blondie Bumstead forms a civilian defense group, Housewives of America, by persuading her housewife neighbors to join. But the forming of the group creates trouble in her own household. It was the first to feature the character of Cookie. Plot Blondie gives birth to a baby daughter, Cookie, at the hospital. Dagwood is clumsy at doing housework in her absence. He is then sent to Chicago to attend an architects convention, where he meets an eccentric but impoverished hotel-room neighbor. The man claims to be a playwright and mooches Dagwood's meal while writing a speech, which Dagwood then delivers at the convention. Unfortunately, the speech urges homeowners to design their own homes rather than hire architects.
