A number of geographic features in Greenland were named after Greenlandic Inuit. Arctic explorer Knud Rasmussen was partly of Greenlandic origin and several places and landforms in Greenland, such as the Knud Rasmussen Range and Knud Rasmussen Land, were named after him. Jørgen Brønlund Fjord
Jørgen Brønlund Fjord or Bronlund Fjord is a fjord in southern Peary Land, northern Greenland. It was named after polar explorer Jørgen Brønlund by the Danmark expedition. Geography It runs roughly from NW to SE with its mouth located at the western end of Melville Land, between Cape Harald Moltke to the east and Cape Knud Rasmussen to the west. It is about long and to wide, and opens out to Independence Fjord in the south. The Børglum River has its mouth on the left side of the fjord. Brønlundhus, a former research station, is located on the west side close to the mouth of the fjord, and Kap Harald Moltke, another similar facility, on the east side. Brønlundhus was, until 1950, the northernmost radio outpost in the world. The northern shore is the type locality of the Buen Formation. Greenland is located between the Arctic Ocean and the North Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Canada and northwest of Iceland. Navarana Fjord
Navarana Fjord is a fjord in Peary Land, far northern Greenland. It is named after an Inuit woman. In 1984 important zinc and barium deposits were discovered in the Navarana Fjord. Australian Ironbark Zinc corporation was granted an exploration licence in 2007. History This fjord was mapped by Danish Arctic explorer Eigil Knuth during the Danish Peary Land Expedition of 1947–1950. It was named after Navarana Mequpaluk (died 1921), the wife of Arctic explorer Peter Freuchen (1886–1957). Navarana had died at Upernavik in 1921 just before joining the Fifth Thule Expedition with her husband. Joe Island ( da, Joe Ø) is an island of the Nares Strait, Greenland. Administratively it belongs to the Avannaata municipality. Joe Island was named after Joe (Ipiirvik or Ebierbing), an Inuit guide who accompanied Charles Francis Hall in the 1871 Polaris expedition. Geography Joe Island lies in the Kennedy Channel at the limit of the Hall Basin. Hendrik Island
Hendrik Island is an island in far northern Greenland. Its area is 583 km2. It is part of the Northeast Greenland National Park. The island is named after Inuit Arctic explorer Hendrik Olsen, who was a member of Knud Rasmussen's Second Thule Expedition 1916–1917. Geography Hendrik Island is a large coastal island located east of Nyeboe Land, between Saint George Fjord to the west and Sherard Osborn Fjord to the east. Its southern end faces the mouth of Hartz Sound, off the Warming Land Peninsula. The northernmost headland of the island is Dragon Point.
