Taichung has approximately 2.8 million residents and is the second most populous city of Taiwan, as well as the most populous city in Central Taiwan. Taiwan has a Christian minority, making up about 3.9% of its population. Roughly half of Taiwan's Christians are Catholic, and half Protestant. Due to the small number of practitioners, Christianity has not influenced the island nation's Han Chinese culture in a significant way. Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Taipei
The Immaculate Conception Cathedral () is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Datong District, Taipei, Taiwan. The Latin Rite church serves as the see of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Taipei (''Archidioecesis Taipehensis''; 天主教台北總教區) that was created by Pope Pius XII with the Bull ''"Gravia illa Christi"''. History The original building was built by Spanish in 1629, but was destroyed in a raid. Between 1911 and 1914, a new church was built in the Gothic style. During World War II, the church was bombed in 1945 and then replaced with a simpler structure. Reconstruction began in 1959, ending in May 1961. The Cathedral of Our Lady of China ( zh, t=中華聖母主教座堂) is located in Tainan city, Taiwan and serves as the cathedral for the Roman Catholic diocese of Tainan, Taiwan. The Christ the Saviour Cathedral () also called Cathedral of Jesus Saviour is a religious building that is affiliated with the Catholic Church and is located at 100 Sanmin street in Central District, Taichung, Taiwan, Island. The present church building began in 1957 and was completed in 1958.
