List Of Ambassadors Of Germany To Australia
The Ambassador of Germany to Australia is an officer of the German Foreign Office and the head of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Commonwealth of Australia. The position has the rank and status of an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and holds non-resident accreditation for Nauru, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. The ambassador is based with the embassy in Yarralumla in Canberra but initially from 1952 to 1958 was based in Sydney. The ambassador is currently Markus Ederer since September 2022, who was most recently Ambassador of the European Union to Russia. Germany and Australia have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1952, although official consular representation existed in Sydney and Melbourne since 1879 and an embassy for the German Democratic Republic, with its own ambassador, also existed between 1972 and 1990. Heinz Voigt
Heinz Voigt (born 11 September 1913, date of death unknown) was a German jurist and diplomat who served as Ambassador to Australia, Morocco, Iraq, and Sweden. Early life Born in the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg on 11 September 1913, after school education Hess studied law from 1930 to 1933 at the University of Hamburg. Voigt gained his doctorate in law in 1934 and took the state civil service examination in 1937. On entering the Ministry of Justice, Voigt was appointed a Gerichtsassessor in the Landgericht Hamburg. In 1941 he was appointed as a magistrate of the court. From 1939 to 1945, Voigt undertook Wehrmacht military service as an anti-aircraft battery commander. After the war, Voigt was again appointed to the Regional Court in Hamburg as a judge in 1946. Hans Mühlenfeld
Hans Mühlenfeld (11 September 1901 – 14 October 1969) was a German politician and diplomat who served as the second Ambassador to Australia and Ambassador to the Netherlands. Early life and education Born in Hanover, Prussia, on 11 September 1901, after school education Mühlenfeld studied law and political science at the University of Göttingen where he was granted his doctor of law. In the summer semester of 1929 he became member of Burschenschaft Hannovera (fraternity). After passing his state examination, he worked as a corporate lawyer. Political and diplomatic career After the war in 1945, Mühlenfeld was a co-founder and from 1950 deputy chairman of the German Party (DP). Rudolf Asmis
Rudolf Albert August Wilhelm Asmis (12 June 1879 – 13 November 1945) was a German jurist, colonial official and diplomat who served as Minister to Siam and Consul-General for Australia. Early life Rudolf Asmis was born on 12 June 1879 in Mesekenhagen, Pomerania and undertook law studies at the University of Greifswald, where he gained a Doctor of Laws in 1900 and was a member of the Singing Society "Gotia Greifswald" (part of the 'Sondershäuser Verband'). Asmis also later gained a Doctor of Philosophy in 1906. In 1900 Asmis became a Court clerk (" Gerichtsreferendar") in Pomerania. In 1904 he was promoted to "Gerichtsassessor" in Prussia. Hans Carl Paul Eduard Büsing (11 February 1880 – 20 July 1941) was a German diplomat who served as Minister to Finland and Minister to Paraguay. Early life and education Born in Schwerin in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin on 11 February 1880, after school education Büsing studied law at the University of Tübingen. While at university in 1899 he was a member of the Corps Suevia Tübingen. In 1902 Büsing started his career at the Ministry of Justice, receiving his doctor of law in 1903, but after a few years switched his career to the German Foreign Office in 1910.
