Chipman, New Brunswick
Chipman is an unincorporated community in Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023. The community of Chipman is located on the banks of the Salmon River at the head of the Grand Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the Maritime provinces. The village itself is located around 73.4 kilometres from the capital city of Fredericton. History Chipman is named after Ward Chipman Jr. (1787-1851), who served as Chief Justice of New Brunswick from 1834 to 1851. The village of Chipman was founded in 1835, and was made up of portions of the older parishes of Brunswick and Canning. The first settler in what would become the Parish of Chipman was Alexander McClure of County Tyrone, who arrived in 1820 with his wife, Mary McLeod and their five daughters. Charlo Airport is located south-southeast of Charlo, New Brunswick, Canada. The airport is classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and is staffed by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). CBSA officers at this airport can handle general aviation aircraft only, with no more than 15 passengers. History Charlo Airport, the only airport in the region, offered scheduled air service from 1963 to 2001. In October 2012, Provincial Airlines began trial flights at the Charlo Airport. In January 2013, because there was sufficient demand, it made the trial flights permanent. Charlo ( ; 2016 population: 1,310) is a former Canadian incorporated village in Restigouche County, New Brunswick. History Situated on the south shore of Chaleur Bay, the community was first settled by Acadians in 1799 (except for the Thompson family who emigrated from Ireland through the port of New York who settled 1784-1790 and was granted land by the crown in 1824 next to the church property) and incorporated in 1966. River Charlo is one of its neighbourhoods. The Charlo Airport, the only airport in the region, offered scheduled air service between 1963-2001. Bouctouche
Bouctouche is a Canadian town in Kent County, New Brunswick. History Bouctouche was originally named Tjipogtotjg (pronounced ''Chebooktoosk''), a Mi'kmaq word meaning "Great Little Harbour". The region was next settled by brothers Francois LeBlanc and Charles LeBlanc, and brothers Isidore Bastarache and Joseph Bastarache in 1785 as an Acadian community. "La Croix commémorative aux fondateurs de Bouctouche" was unveiled August 29, 1954, to pay tribute to the founders of the town, who first arrived in 1785. It says "We remember François and Hélène (née Breau) LeBlanc; Charlitte and first wife Marie (née Breau) LeBlanc, and his second wife Madeleine (née Girouard); and Joseph and Marie (née Girouard) Bastarache".
