Chipman, New Brunswick
Chipman is an unincorporated community in Queens County, New Brunswick, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada. It held village status prior to 2023. The community of Chipman is located on the banks of the Salmon River (New Brunswick), Salmon River at the head of the Grand Lake (New Brunswick), Grand Lake, the largest freshwater lake in the Maritime provinces. The village itself is located around 73.4 kilometres from the capital city of Fredericton. History Chipman is named after Ward Chipman Jr., Ward Chipman Jr. (1787-1851), who served as Chief Justice of New Brunswick from 1834 to 1851. The village of Chipman was founded in 1835, and was made up of portions of the older parishes of Brunswick Parish, New Brunswick, Brunswick and Canning Parish, New Brunswick, Canning. Alexander McClure
Alexander Kelly McClure (January 9, 1828 – June 6, 1909) was an American politician, newspaper editor, and writer from Pennsylvania who served as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1858 to 1859, the Pennsylvania State Senate for the 18th district in 1861, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1865 to 1866, and the Pennsylvania Senate, 4th district from 1873 to 1874. He was a prominent supporter, correspondent, and biographer of President Abraham Lincoln. Minto, New Brunswick
Minto (2016 pop. 2,305) is a Canadian village straddling the border of Sunbury County and Queens County, New Brunswick. It is located on the north shore of Grand Lake, approximately 50 kilometres northeast of Fredericton. Its population meets the requirements for "town" status under the Municipalities Act of the Province of New Brunswick, but the community has not made any change in municipal status. Minto is known to have taken its present name in 1904 upon the retirement of Canada's eighth Governor General, The Earl of Minto. and the story remains that the village adopted its name from the local Minto Hotel.
