The champion teams of the NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), are determined annually by a grand final weekend hosted by Basketball Western Australia. All grand finals have been played in a one-game championship decider, except in 1995 when a best-of-three series was used. Since 2010, the WA Basketball Centre has been the grand final host venue. NBL1 West
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. The District Competition was introduced by the Western Australian Basketball Federation (WABF) as an 'elite' competition held on Friday nights, featuring eight Perth-based associations from the prominent districts of Perth, Swan Districts, Tangney/Willetton, Subiaco, East Perth, Cockburn, Stirling, and Claremont. East Perth Eagles is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of East Perth District Basketball Association (EPDBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in Perth's north eastern suburbs. The Eagles play their home games at Herb Graham Recreation Centre. Club history Background Basketball in East Perth began in 1946 with the formation of the Western Australian Basketball Association. As a founding member of the association, the organisation was originally known as the Youth Catholic Workers (YCW) Highgate Basketball Club. In 1948, they were renamed Highgate Basketball Club. 2020 WSBL Season
The 2020 WSBL season was to be the 32nd season of the Women's State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season was set to begin on Friday 20 March, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the season was cancelled. Season that was scheduled Following a pre-season blitz weekend, the regular season was set to begin on Friday 20 March. Round 1 (13–15 March) was scheduled as a bye round for the WSBL (inline with the MSBL having a small-scale opening round), with all 12 teams making their season debuts in round 2 and playing 19 weekends of competition, concluding on Friday 24 July. Warwick Senators
Warwick Senators is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of Stirling Basketball Association (SBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the City of Stirling. The SBA was established in 1971, and in 2012, came under the umbrella of the Churches of Christ Sport & Recreation Association (CCSRA). The Senators play their home games at Warwick Stadium.
