The 100 greatest Brazilian music records list was chosen by voting held by the ''Rolling Stone Brasil'' magazine published in October 2007. Election The choice of the "100 greatest" was based on the sum of votes of 60 scholars, producers and Brazilian music journalists. Each of the voters chose 20 albums, in no order of preference, which according to ''Rolling Stone'', should be based on criteria like ''"intrinsical artistic value and historical importance, that is, how much the album influenced other artists."'' João Gilberto
João Gilberto (born João Gilberto Prado Pereira de Oliveira – ; 10 June 1931 – 6 July 2019) was a Brazilian guitarist, singer and composer who was a pioneer of the musical genre of bossa nova in the late 1950s. Around the world, he was often called "father of bossa nova"; in his native Brazil, he was referred to as ''"O Mito"'' ("The Legend"). Elis Regina Carvalho Costa (March 17, 1945 – January 19, 2002), known professionally as Elis Regina (), was a Brazilian singer of MPB and jazz music. She is also the mother of the singers Maria Rita and Pedro Mariano. She became nationally renowned in 1965 after singing "Arrastão" (composed by Edu Lobo and Vinícius de Moraes) in the first edition of TV Excelsior festival song contest and soon joined ''O Fino da Bossa'', a television program on TV Record. ''Elis & Tom'' is a bossa nova album, released in 1974, recorded by Brazilian singer Elis Regina and singer-songwriter Antônio Carlos Jobim. Recorded over a 16-day period at MGM Studios in Los Angeles, California, the album was an old wish of Regina, who always wanted to record a full album of Jobim's songs with him. This finally came true in 1974, when Elis was celebrating her 10th anniversary as an artist of Philips Records. The label approved the project as a gift for her. In 2004, the 30th anniversary of the initial release, a remastered special edition was released on DVD Audio which included a 5.1 multi-channel surround mix from the original master tapes. Transa (album)
''Transa'' () is the sixth album by the Brazilian musician Caetano Veloso, released in 1972 by Philips Records. Like its predecessor, it was recorded while the artist was exiled in London, though he returned to Brazil shortly after completing it. Background and Recording Exiled in London since 1969, Caetano Veloso gained permissions to stay one month in Brazil in January 1971 to see the commemorative mass of his parents 40th anniversary. In Rio de Janeiro, the singer was interrogated by the military who asked him to compose a song complimenting the Transamazônica highway - during its construction. Caetano didn't accept the "proposal", but, back in London, recorded the LP with the title ''"Transa"'', released in Brazilian territory in January 1972, when the singer returned to the country for good. ''Os Mutantes'' (, "the mutants") is the debut album by the Brazilian tropicalia band Os Mutantes. It was originally released in 1968 by Polydor and blends traditional Brazilian music styles with American and British psychedelia. The album includes a cover of The Mamas & The Papas' " Once Was a Time I Thought", translated into "Tempo no Tempo", and a cover of "Le premier bonheur du jour", previously recorded by Françoise Hardy. Milton Nascimento (; born October 26, 1942), also known as Bituca, is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He has toured across the world. ''Clube da Esquina'' is a 1972 double album by the Brazilian music artists collective Clube da Esquina, credited to Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges. Considered an important record in the history of Brazilian music, it features arrangements by Eumir Deodato and Wagner Tiso, and conductions by Paulo Moura. The album garnered attention for its engaged compositions and miscellany of sounds. Despite popular belief, the photo on the album cover does not depict Borges and Nascimento as children.
