Québécois People
Quebecers or Quebeckers (''Québécois'' in French, and sometimes also in English) are people associated with Quebec. The term is most often used in reference to descendants of the French settlers in Quebec but it can also be used to describe people of any ethnicity who live in the province. Self-identification as Québécois became dominant starting in the 1960s; prior to this, the francophone people of Quebec mostly identified themselves as French Canadians and as ''Canadiens'' before anglophones started identifying as Canadians as well. A majority in the House of Commons of Canada in 2006 approved a motion tabled by Prime Minister Stephen Harper, which stated that the Québécois are a nation within a united Canada.Michael M. Normand Brathwaite
Normand Brathwaite (born August 27, 1958) is a Quebec comedian, movie and television actor, radio and television host and musician. He is known for hosting television variety shows for over 10 years, including ''Piment Fort'' as well as the Montreal radio morning show ''Yé trop de bonne heure'' on CKOI-FM for 15 years. He currently hosts CITE-FM's ''Mix 80'' on Saturdays 4-8pm since August 2011. Background After studying Theatre at Collège Lionel-Groulx, in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, Brathwaite started to participate in theatrical plays in 1977 and played in 1981 the musical comedy show ''La Cage aux folles''. ''Patof'' is a character in the highly successful Canadian children's television series ''Patofville''. He was portrayed by actor-comedian Jacques Desrosiers. Television, performances, and comics In January 1972, the clown Patof made his appearance in the series ''Le Cirque du Capitaine'' on the French-language Quebec television station CFTM-TV Channel 10. Jacques Desrosiers (July 8, 1938 – June 11, 1996) was a Québécois Canadian singer and actor. Desrosiers was best known for playing the clown Patof in the Canadian television series ''Patofville''. He was born in Montreal, Quebec. Early career Son of the comic comedian Pierre Desrosiers and brother of singers André Fontaine and Édouard Desrosiers (Édouard would later become a politician), Jacques Desrosiers begins in 1956 as imitator and cabaret artist on CBC/Radio-Canada television. Yvon Deschamps (born July 31, 1935, in Montreal, Quebec) is a Quebec author, actor, comedian and producer best known for his monologues. His social-commentary-tinged humour propelled him to prominence in Quebec popular culture in the 1970s and 1980s. A long time comedian and still active, Deschamps is now perceived as one of the greatest in Quebec history. Biography Beginnings Yvon Deschamps was born in Montreal's working-class Saint-Henri district. He left school in 1951, after Grade 11, and in 1953 found work in the record library at Radio-Canada's new television service. It was at Radio-Canada that Deschamps discovered the performing arts; after attending a boulevard theatre piece starring Georges Groulx and Denise Pelletier, he added a taste for the theatre, and enrolled in acting classes with François Rozet and Paul Buissonneau. Clémence DesRochers OC (born 23 November 1933) is a Canadian actress, humourist, singer, and author. Life She was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec on 23 November 1933. At the age of 17, she went to Montreal where she entered the normal school. She then attended the conservatoire d'art dramatique, and upon leaving the conservatory had a role in a Radio-Canada drama. In 2009 DesRochers received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award, Canada's highest honour in the performing arts, for her lifetime contribution to broadcasting. She is out as lesbian. Michel Courtemanche (; born December 11, 1964) is a Canadian comedian and actor from Quebec, performing in Quebec, France, Belgium and Switzerland. Career His debut one-man show, ''A New Comic is Born'', ran for more than five hundred performances and earned him two Felix nominations. It was first performed in Montreal in 1989. His second, ''The New Adventures of Michel Courtemanche'', first performed in 1992, filled theatres in both North America and Europe and spawned his second international hit video (1993). Michel Côté (born June 25, 1950) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his performances in the films ''Cruising Bar'', '' Life After Love (La vie après l'amour)'' and ''C.R.A.Z.Y.'', the theatrical show ''Broue'' and the television series ''Omertà''. Career Côté taught introductory acting and improvisation at the Option Theatre in Ste. Therese until 1977. He subsequently cofounded a small theatre, Vogagements.
