Wiconisco Township is a township in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,162 in the 2020 census. Wiconisco Township took its name from Wiconisco Creek, a west-flowing tributary of the Susquehanna River. Geography Wiconisco Township is in the northern part of Dauphin County. The borough of Lykens, a separate municipality, is in the southern part of the township. The unincorporated community of Wiconisco is in the eastern part of the township. Swatara Township is a township in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The population was 27,824 at the 2020 census. History In 1729, the Paxtang Township of Lancaster County was established. The spelling "Paxtang" is from the original Indian name ''Peshtank'', which meant "standing water". On March 4, 1785, Dauphin County was formed from Lancaster County, with the word "Dauphin" referring to the Dauphin of France, the heir apparent to the French throne whose country the area government wanted to honor for its assistance in the Revolutionary War. In August 1787 the legislature separated Paxtang Township into Upper Paxtang, Middle Paxtang and Lower Paxtang townships. Lower Paxtang Township embraced the areas now known as Lower Swatara, Swatara, Lower Paxton, Derry and Susquehanna townships. Paxtang is a borough in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 1,640. The borough is a suburb of Harrisburg and is one of the earliest colonial settlements in South Central Pennsylvania. East Hanover Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania
East Hanover Township is a township in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 6,009 at the 2020 census. History The township traces its roots to the founding of the Hanover (Presbyterian) church in 1735. Hanover parish broke off of the Derry parish (modern day Hershey) to serve settlers north of the Swatara Creek. The original church is gone, but the cemetery remains between the village of Grantville and the base of the blue mountain. Hanover Township was later divided into East Hanover, West Hanover, and South Hanover townships. When Lebanon County was formed in 1813, East Hanover Township was partitioned to form East Hanover Township, Lebanon County. The John Todd House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. Dauphin is a borough in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 796 at the 2020 census. Dauphin's ZIP code is 17018. It is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Dauphin is located on the western edge of Dauphin County at , on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. The land at the river's edge is alluvial floodplain, but Dauphin sits at the head of a narrow valley between two mountains, at the mouth of Stony Creek. The valley between the two mountains is called Stony Valley, which contains the villages of Singersville and Ellendale Forge. Halifax is a borough in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. Halifax was incorporated as a borough on May 29, 1785. It is situated at the confluence of Armstrong Creek and the Susquehanna River. The population was 795 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pillow is a borough in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 291 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Harrisburg– Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Pillow was founded in 1818 in the eastern part of Mifflin Township, Dauphin County by John Snyder, a land developer from Mercer County, as "Snydertown" (''Schneiderschteddel''). The borough was incorporated as "Uniontown" on April 20, 1864, becoming a separate municipality from the township. When the town got its first post office in 1847, post offices under the name of " Snydertown" and " Uniontown" already existed. A postal official substituted the name "Pillow" after General Gideon Pillow, who was popular at the time for his victories in the Mexican–American War.
