This is a list of artists (bands and individual musicians) who recorded at least one session for John Peel and his show on BBC Radio 1 from 1967 to his death in 2004. The first session was recorded by Tomorrow (band), Tomorrow on 21 September 1967, and the last by Skimmer (band), Skimmer on 21 October 2004. John Peel
John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004), known professionally as John Peel, was an English disc jockey (DJ) and radio presenter. He was the longest-serving of the original BBC Radio 1 DJs, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004. Peel was one of the first broadcasters to play psychedelic rock and progressive rock records on British radio. He is widely acknowledged for promoting artists of multiple genres, including pop, dub reggae, punk rock and post-punk, electronic music and dance music, indie rock, extreme metal and British hip hop. Fellow DJ Paul Gambaccini described Peel as "the most important man in music for about a dozen years". 22-20s were an English blues rock band, formed in 2002 in Sleaford, Lincolnshire. The band originally disbanded in December 2005 before reforming in 2008 and releasing ''Shake/Shiver/Moan'' in 2010 and ''Got It If You Want It'' in 2012. They disbanded for a second time in early 2013, before reforming again in late 2019. The band's songs have regularly featured in adverts and films, most notably "Devil in Me" which was featured on the Vauxhall Astra television commercial in early 2016 and later a commercial for the ''Racing Post''. Aavikko
Aavikko is a Finnish synth music band, formed in Siilinjärvi in 1995. Their hallmarks include a campy, decidedly "East European" style and plastic-sounding synthesizer themes. The band themselves call their style "''muysic''" (a portmanteau of "''mystic''" and "''music''"); their motto is "''We play - you dance!''". One of their most famous songs is "Viitostie", which is strongly influenced by Kraftwerk (the name is a reference to "Autobahn": "Viitostie" is a highway in Finland that passes through Siilinjärvi). 10,000 Maniacs is an American alternative rock band that was founded in 1981. They have released nine studio albums, six EPs, and five live albums. 1919 are an English rock band formed in Bradford, England in early 1980. History (1980–84) The band was formed in late 1980 by Guitarist Mark Tighe and Vocalist Ian Tilleard. After starting life as ''Heaven Seventeen'', and with early line-ups including a pre-Zodiac Mindwarp Mark Manning, the band eventually settled as 1919 (after a book belonging to Tighe) with Nick Hiles on Bass and Mick Reed on Drums. Their intention was, according to Reed, "to create a heavy melodic intense dance band with no frills and no intentions". In 1982, 1919 released a 7" white label promo of ''Repulsion//Tear Down These Walls'', and were subsequently invited to record their first session with John Peel in May that year. 1982 would see the single re-released on Red Rhino Records, as well as the single ''Caged//After The Fall'' and the LP ''Machine''. One Thousand Violins
One Thousand Violins was an English 1960s-influenced indie-pop group from Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, who had several UK Indie Chart hits in the late 1980s. History The band was formed in 1985 by Darren Swindells (bass), Colin Gregory (guitar), John Wood (vocals), David Walmsley (keyboards/guitar), and Peter Day (drums). Gregory and Walmsley had previously played together in The Page Boys. Their first single, "Halcyon Days" was released in 1985. The B-side, "Like One Thousand Violins" was voted into that year's Festive 50 by listeners to John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show, the band having recorded a session for the show earlier that year. 1986 saw a second Peel session, and the band breaking into the indie chart with "Please Don't Sandblast My House", which reached number 11. 999 are an English punk rock band, formed in London in December 1976. From the period of 1976 to 1985, the line-up of 999 consisted of Nick Cash (vocals, guitar), Guy Days (lead guitar), Jon Watson (bass guitar) and Pablo LaBritain (drums). LaBritain was temporarily replaced in 1980 by drummer Paul Edward aka 'Ed Case' while he recovered from a motor accident. Bassist Jon Watson left the band in 1985 and was replaced by Danny Palmer, who was succeeded by Arturo Bassick in 1991. Between 1978 and 2007, 999 released fourteen singles and twelve studio albums. 400 Blows were a British industrial/post punk band founded in 1981. History 400 Blows was formed in Croydon, South London by Edward Beer in 1981 along with two friends, Alexander Fraser and Rob. Their debut single was released on their own Concrete Productions record label in 1982. In 1983 they were signed to the Illuminated label and subsequently released an album, ''"...if I kissed her I'd have to kill her first..."'' (a quote from serial killer Edmund Kemper to his sister, who was teasing him about wanting to kiss his teacher). In 1985 they released a single, "Movin'", described by Adrian Thrills in the ''New Musical Express'' as 'a spiked reworking of the 1976 Brass Construction dance classic'. 90 Day Men is an American progressive rock band formed in 1995 in St. Louis, Missouri, United States, and later based in Chicago, Illinois.
