Qawwal
Qawwali (Punjabi: (Shahmukhi), (Gurmukhi); Urdu: ( Nasta'liq); Hindi: क़व्वाली (Devanagari); Bengali: কাওয়ালি (Bengali)) is a form of Sufi Islamic devotional singing, originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is popular mostly in the Punjab and Sindh regions of Pakistan; in Hyderabad, Delhi and other parts of India, especially North India; as well as the Dhaka and Chittagong Divisions of Bangladesh. Originally performed at Sufi shrines or dargahs throughout South Asia, it gained mainstream popularity and an international audience in late 20th century. Qawwali music received international exposure through the work of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Aziz Mian and Sabri Brothers largely due to several releases on the Real World label, followed by live appearances at WOMAD festivals. Abdullah Qureshi (singer)
Abdullah Qureshi is a Pakistani singer, songwriter, and music composer. Born in Islamabad, Abdullah gained recognition from his covers on YouTube. Qureshi also featured in popular music TV program '' Nescafé Basement'' Season 4 and performed an original song "Awaz Do". Life and career Abdullah Qureshi was born and raised in Islamabad and got his early education from Bahria College Islamabad. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communication from the National University of Sciences and Technology. Qureshi started out playing for underground rock and metal bands in Islamabad and later started his own thing under his own name. Arthur Nayyar (14 April 1950 – 11 November 2016), commonly known as A. Nayyar, was a Pakistani film playback singer. He started his career in 1974 with a duet song. Ali Baba Khan
Ali Baba Khan ( ps, علي بابا خان; born Ali Ul Habib, 5 March 1993) is a Pakistani Pashtun Sufi singer in the Pashto music industry. Early life and education He was born on 5 March 1993 in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Khan got his telecommunications engineering degree from the City University of Science and Information Technology in Peshawar. Singing career Khan sings in the Pashto language started formally in 2013. He performed at an international Sufi concert in Afghanistan. Ali Azmat
Ali Azmat Butt (born 20 April 1970) is a Pakistani singer-songwriter, musician and actor. He is best known as the lead singer for the influential Sufi Rock band Junoon and for his subsequent solo career. In 2001, he became part of the first Pakistani band (Junoon) ever to perform at the United Nations General Assembly. Early life Ali Azmat was born in Havelian, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where his grandfather was posted as station master of Havelian Railway Station, while he grew up in Garhi Shahu, Lahore, into a family of ethnic Kashmiri descent and speaks Punjabi as his native language. Ali Alam ( ur, علی عالم) is a Pakistani underground musician based in Karachi. An architect by profession, he graduated from Sri Ara Schools, Malaysia. Biography Birth Ali was born on September 11, 1977. According to sources, there was no electricity in the entire city of Lahore that night; as such, Ali was born with lanterns placed in the maternity ward. Alamgir (pop Singer)
Alamgir Haq, usually referred to as just Alamgir ( ur, ); born 11 August 1955), is a Pakistani singer-songwriter, guitarist, and one of the pioneers of pop music in Pakistan. His style of singing is inspired by playback singer Ahmed Rushdi and Elvis Presley. Early life Alamgir was born on 11 August 1955 in East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh). His father, Farmuzal Haq, was a politician and a member of the All India Muslim League as Secretary of Treasury and later a member of Pakistan's National Assembly during the presidency of Ayub Khan. Alam Lohar
Alam Lohar ( pa, ) was a prominent Pakistani Punjabi folk music singer. He is credited with creating and popularising the musical term Jugni. Early life and career Alam Lohar was born in 1928 in Achh, near Kotla Arab Ali Khan, Gujrat Tehsil, Gujrat District of Punjab, British India. He was born into a family of blacksmiths. As a child, Lohar read ''Sufiana Kalaam'', a collection of Punjabi stories and poetry and started singing from a childhood age. Ahmed Ghulamali Chagla
Ahmed Ghulam Ali Chagla ( ur, احمد غلام علی چھاگلہ; 31 May 1902 – 5 February 1953) was a Pakistani musical composer who famously wrote the music for the national anthem of Pakistan in 1949. A scholar and writer, he was also an active member of the Theosophical Society. Early life Chagla was born into a prominent Karachi family. His father, Ghulam Ali Chagla, was the third elected president of the municipality of Karachi, serving from 1921 to 1922. Ahmed Chagla attended the Sindh Madrassat-ul-Islam in Karachi and took lessons in classical Indian music in 1910 and western musical composition in 1914. Chagla became interested in the study of the theory of music (both eastern and western). In 1922, he began studying eastern and western systems of music under the famous art critic James Cousins.
