Mississippi
Mississippi () is a state in the Southeastern region of the United States, bordered to the north by Tennessee; to the east by Alabama; to the south by the Gulf of Mexico; to the southwest by Louisiana; and to the northwest by Arkansas. Mississippi's western boundary is largely defined by the Mississippi River. Choctaw In The American Civil War
The Choctaw in the American Civil War participated in two major arenas—the Trans-Mississippi and Western Theaters. The Trans-Mississippi had the Choctaw Nation. The Western had the Mississippi Choctaw. The Choctaw Nation had been mostly removed west prior to the War, but the Mississippi Choctaw had remained in the east. Both the Choctaw Nation and the Mississippi Choctaw would ultimately side with the Confederate States of America. After thirty years of development, the Choctaw Nation had begun to flourish in their new western environment. Their economic system was identical as the American South and based upon slave labor. Their upper class was engaged in the cotton trade with networks reaching as far as New Orleans. 11th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment
The 11th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment (also known as "Perrin's regiment") was a cavalry formation in the Western Theater of the American Civil War commanded by Col. Robert O. Perrin, from 1863 to March 1865, when he resigned, and Lieut. Col. Henry L. Muldrow, until it was disbanded in May 1865. History The regiment was organized and mustered into Confederate service on October 6, 1863, in North and Middle Mississippi from new and existing companies of mounted men as Perrin's Mississippi Cavalry Battalion. It was expanded, reorganized, and redesignated on December 23, 1863, as Perrin's Mississippi Cavalry Regiment. The regiment was redesignated on March 20, 1865, as the 11th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment and disbanded in May 1865. The 3d Mississippi Cavalry Regiment (also known as the "Third Mississippi") was a cavalry formation in the Western Theater of the American Civil War commanded by Colonel John McGuirk. History The regiment was established on June 9, 1863, in the Mississippi Militia at Panola of cavalry from new and existing companies, as the 3d Mississippi State Cavalry Regiment and assigned to the 5th Military District, Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. It was reorganized in April, 1864, and mustered into Confederate service on May 3, 1864, as the 3d Mississippi Cavalry Regiment. The regiment was disbanded on May 12, 1865, at Gainesville, Alabama.
