Averof Neofytou ( el, Αβέρωφ Νεοφύτου; born 31 July 1961) is a Cypriot politician, who is the President of the ruling Democratic Rally (DISY) party since 2013, and serves as Member of the House of Representatives since 2006, having previously served in the position from 1996 to 1999. Prior to his election to parliament, which he briefly left to serve as Minister of Communications and Works, he was active in local politics and served as Mayor of his hometown, Polis, from 1991 to 1998. Tasos Mitsopoulos (Greek:Τάσος Μητσόπουλος; 30 May 1965 – 22 March 2014) was a Cypriot politician. He served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2006 until 2013 for Democratic Rally. He then joined the cabinet of Nicos Anastasiades as Minister of Communications. In a cabinet reshuffle on 14 March 2014 he was appointed Minister of Defence. The Movement for Social Democracy ( el, Κίνημα Σοσιαλδημοκρατών, translit=Kinima Sosialdimokraton, EDEK) is a Greek Cypriot, social-democratic political party in Cyprus. Overview The party was founded by Vasos Lyssaridis in 1969 as the United Democratic Union of the Centre, EDEK (, ΕΔΕΚ). It was originally a strongly anti-imperialist Third World socialist party with roots in the struggle against British colonial rule, influenced by the philosophies of Baathism, Muammar Gaddafi and Nasserism, and by the 1968 movement.
